Insurance for your bike... who do you have?

I've been looking around a bit for some decent insurance for the bike, but it seems everybody is sky high, mostly for collision.  I would like to have full coverage being that it is a brand new bike, but damn Geico had me up over $7000/year!! And that's with a 100% spotless driving record, no accidents no tickets ever.  That's just rediculous....

So if anybody's got some decent and reasonable insurance they're happy with, let me know who and where.  I want to get some soon... even though motorcycle insurance is not required here in Florida, I still want to get some ASAP cuz people are crazy down here! LOL

Go with state farm for bike insurance.  They are the lowest by far.  They base their insurance on cc size not by type of bike.  So sportbike rates are just as low as if you had a cruiser bike.  I think I pay about 700 a year for full coverage on my 1000RR

Whoa...sweet! $700/year for full coverage, can't beat that. Cheaper than the liability only ins on my 15 year old Accord, hahah.  Calling them tomorrow, thanks!

Again, state farm is the cheapest.  Im 24 with no problems on my driving record and i pay 480 a year for my 03 f4i.  Next year they said it will be cut in half when i turn 25.

Re: Insurance for your bike... who do you have?

I agree about State Farm.  They're the best!  I've had my car with them for years and have filed a couple of claims, which were handled flawlessly.  You DO have to have another line of insurance with them to get your MC covered (i.e. car, home, etc.).  You also have to have a MC endorsement (or at least in OK you do).  I get Liability/Comp/Collision with the with $250 deduct. for $72 every 6 months.

When I first got a motorcyle, I went with Progressive due to the fact that you don't have to be licensed.  What a ripoff!  Liability only for $210/6 months.  They also screwed up my coverage three times.  I got a lot of headaches dealing with them.

Allstate had the highest rates of all the ones I researched.

A lot of it just depends on your record, though.  I benefit from being 25 and female in addition to having not tickets or at-fault collisions on my record.  Smile

Also taking the MSF RiderCourse and joining the HRCA will help you in some states/with some companies.

I'm up in Ft Worth and my sister writes through Old American CO. Mutual (800-382-8911) and my 02 F4i is a little over $700 yearly with the Honda Riders Club discount.  When I get my MSF course it'll drop about $100.

Re: Insurance for your bike... who do you have?

what happen if i have nothing insured at State Farm and now want to insure my bike with them?  Can i just tell them that... ok ill insure my car with you from now on, from this day, and i would like to insure my bike too.  Is this ok?  I mean can you tell them to insure both a car and a bike at the same time?  Or do I need to insure the car for some periods of time, then I will be allowed to insure my bike?  Sorry, if this is confusing...

Re: Insurance for your bike... who do you have?

State farm has good rates.  However if you are prior military or have family who was in the military, try USAA.  They have some of the best rates on any insurance.  Car, home, or motorcycle.  Well worth a call.

Ditto on State Farm.  I'm 27 and when i checked on ins for a 2004 1000RR, I think it was going to around $450 a year for full coverage.

Yeah, you should be able to do that.  They would just start a line on the car at the same time.  If you have any time left on your old insurance policy, the old company should refund the money for that unused time.  So, be sure and cancel the old policy as soon as the new one takes effect.

Actually they WILL cover a bike without another line of insurance...you will pay just a little more...but it can be done, you just need to call around.  I called 14 agents here in Des Moines before I found my agent that would do it!

Re: Insurance for your bike... who do you have?

At least in WA, you do not have to have another line with SF. However, you do have to prove you have full coverage on a car with another company. When I started with SF they just had me fax my declarations page to them. Bike is the only coverage I have via SF.

Supposedly they don't want the bike to be your only vehicle, so that is why they want proof you have an insured car.

In my case, I pay $511 for full coverage, max limits. It would be about $240 a year if I had a car through them, but their vehicle rates are so crazy high that it is still much cheaper for me to have my cars somewhere else.

Be warned (at least in WA again) that SF does not offer medical coverage for bikes, which could be a factor. It's also one of the pricey items that shows up on other "full coverage" policies so a direct comparison should take this into account/
