    Top speed on a 1000rr?

I was on my zx12R and messin w/a buddy of mine who's on a 2005 1000R BONE STOCK, a couple thousand miles on it if that.

LONG straight roads meant repeated roll-ons.  Sure enough, even when I gave him the jump or left it in a gear higher, by the end of 3rd (right near 145mph on the limiter actually) I'd be passing him.  I kept rolling off and back on to see how fast that 1000 can really go.

He kept saying that it was hitting the limter in 6th gear around 150 INDICATED!

    W T F !?!?!?!

I know these bikes are down on the competition by 10 hp and have a few pounds more to carry but does this make sense?

Any ideas??!?!  We did it over and over for a good 20 minutes.  I even sprayed on him just for kicks ;-) but he fell behind pretty hard after I got into 4th gear.  Bought the bike in VA if that means anything.  Something is strange.  I know these bikes are also geared a lil short but still, speedos are supposed to be optimistic so if he's seeing those speeds and I'm GONE, something is wrong.

    Thought?

Re: Top speed on a 1000rr?

he probably just wasn't giving it full throttle or maybe he wasn't in 6th like he thought.  I doubt, unless the bike was geared, that it would be hitting redline at 150mph indicated on a 1000rr.

i mean my f4i is 150mph indicated, about redline.

Still no match for a ZX12r. The 12 has too much HP and torque.

my 03 954rr ran 181mph at 11,200 rpm just close to top rpm,was running with an new r1,what a rush first time going that fast for 6 miles went by pretty quick,i think maybe he might be scared of the 1000

Yea I call rider on that one. I've done 180 on my 1000rr and I wasn't at redline. From what I've read around, seems the bike's limit is 190. Does he clutchless shift?

Dude not trying to argue but I seriously doubt a 1000rr will get anywhere near 190mph.  Maybe more like 172-178.  You also have to consider speedo error.

Re: Top speed on a 1000rr?

Yeah maybe he wasn't shifting right and thought he was in 6th when really he wasn't.  Roads were very clear and straight otherwise we wouldn't have done it.  I thought about telling him to start the roll on in 6th gear from 60 mph or something but that would be pretty boring.

Chris, if you're reading this....sorry man but we'll have to switch bikes to prove if this was a fluke.  And sorry but I'm taking the bottle out, no ifs ands or buts!

Yea I don't know if it will go that fast. My speedo is definetly showing a higher speed than what I'm actually travelling at. Keep in mind though I haven't changed the sprockets or anything to add to the error. There's a video of a guy on a 1000rr in NY going 185+. I think it's on uponone. His bike might be modified or something. I've only gone that fast once, so from my perspective, if it can't do 190, no big deal. Now I'm curious though...if I go that fast at some point I'll post it here.

Re: Top speed on a 1000rr?

I have a test in one of the mags that shows the CBR doing 175, the GSXR at 180, the R1 at 184, and the ZX10 at 186. All bikes now are limited to 186. I had my old ZX12 at an indicated 195.

man, i already told ya i was sandbaggin ;)  nah, i don't know.  that was the fastest i've ever gone so i was more concerned about looking at the road than the speedo.  i DO know that i was hitting the limiter and i was hunting for 7th gear.  we'll have to give it another go sometime...

Re: Top speed on a 1000rr?

Definately the rider.  My 05 1K2R hits 150 like it is nothing.  Out of the group I ride with, I can pretty much dominate.  Especially when we go up into the mountains.  Mostly CBR's ranging from F3, F4, F4i, and just about all of the 900's.  Couple of gixxers and one squid who rides a Busa.

On interstate I85 on a day when traffice was amazingly light A friend and I opened up and my speedo was reading 186 mph when I backed out because we came up on traffic.  I wasn't redlined, and she was still accellerating.  I know there is a certain amount of speedo error, and my friend was just to far behind to compare to.  Not to mention that since he started playing with sprocket sizes his speedo is off by an insane amount.

I work in fire/ems and have several friends in law enforcement.  One clocked me with my speedo at 70 and his radar claimed 68.  At this ratio of 1 mph err per 35mph on speedo that still puts my speed at 186-(186/35) which is 181 mph.

When the 1000 first came out in 04 Cycle World Magazine reported the 04's top speed over 185, don't remember the exact, but had a hard time believing until I rode mine!

Re: Top speed on a 1000rr?

Was the top speed on a dyno,  calculaated, or on actual track. They never say for real which is which, when you think about a MotoGP bike a couple of years ago trying to get over the 200mph mark these bikes were just barely doing it and these bikes weighed 100 pounds lighter and had 60hp or more at the rear tire. Aero drag on a bike is huge and most people always talk numbers but don't realize how much drag affects, also I know that on the 929/954 the speedo is 5%. Last year I placed a speedo healer on the bike set it up with a GPS and a friend that has a new GSX-R 1k speedo was reading 84 and I was at 80 thats a huge difference. All I know for sure is that when someone asks me how fast it goes, I say Really fast.

Re: Top speed on a 1000rr?

sc1000r:  You're a little off there.  you can't just say 'oh its off by 1 mph every 35mph ridden'.  Speedos get exponentially worse up top.

Not bashing but if your bike was stock, piped and pc3red, or something similar you were not hitting 180 mph.

The other literbikes are doing it but not the 1000rr yet.  Smaller bore, longer stroke means its has LESS HP than the rest.

The 1000rr is fast, no doubt but lets be realistic here.  If you are saying the 1000rr pulls past 185, then that would mean at LEAST 186 which is right near 300 kph where all manufacturers have agreed to limit their bikes.  I don't buy that the 1000RR is restricted by its limiter.  Its restricted by its HP/GEARING/AEROS.

Re: Top speed on a 1000rr?

And Nate, the moto GP bikes didnt' have a problem ever hitting 200 mph, its just that they didn't have enough room given a specific track to open up enough.

Honestly my 201 RWHP Zx12 hit 199.57 in the mile.  How much MORE does my bike weigh than theirs?  And how much less HP?

If I did a roll-on w/a GP bike it would be close for a second only cuz I could get the power down being longer, heavier and lower with LESS HP than them.  After that it would be bu by!

Re: Top speed on a 1000rr?

Ok that guy must have been scared or something. I have a 2004 Honda CBR 1000rr and i have a full micron exhaust and a power commander on it. And I've had it up to 190, and it got there fast.  I wont be hitting those speeds anymore seeing i'm putting big sprockets on it (-2    +6)
