More of a full faired look, 137 ponies from a V twin, and finaly...... 6 gears!!! only downer is the rotax mill. not that that's a problem... just wish HD had steped up to the plate and made a mill so we could have a real american sport bike! of course if its good enough for aprilla!....
I've been a fan just watching Buell for a while but now they got the hook in my lip! any one else seen it ?? got a comement???

yeah...i rode with my dad to the HD dealership cuz he wanted some accessories...i was immediatly drawn to the Buells...then the dealer gave me a brochure of the new ones commin out....they are fricken sweet....can't beat the sound either...what drew my attention though was an 04 xb12s lightning.  about the only thing i found bad about it was its only a 5 speed....looking at tradin in the 97 f3 for it.  What do you all think...would i be an idiot...

Re: WOW! The new Buell !!

If your a street rider, it would be a great upgrade. biger engine plus twice the torque, means less need for shifting up or down to stay in the power band. it will be a bit of a wheelie monster. the buell will handle better than your f3 also. you sound excited about the bike and that's the bigest thing. you have to be happy with it. try to get a test ride in first to see how the bike moves you. if it stirs your soul you'll know!!!

Re: WOW! The new Buell !!

my friend have the new buell. yes it's a real wheely machine. he can pop wheelies all day matta fact. just last week his buell was taking from him for wreckless riding, he pop one for half a block.

the bike is really short and high. the v twin makes the bike shakes like a harly. stock throttle responce is like a hd. great bike though, i really like it.. it's like a cruiser smashed into a street/sports bike, into a dirt bike. it's awesome cant wait to ride it again.

Re: WOW! The new Buell !!

HD doesn't design the engines for Buells.  They help out with some design and testing, but don't do everything.

The Buell looks pretty sweet.  I hope to ride one this upcoming summer.

I said time and time again that HD is unwilling to try to compete. I know Eric Buell made the decision to move away from the HD motor and felt that the HD motor could not give what the bike needed. I don't know if HD made an attempt to build something state of the art, but I doubt it. As far as I know HD doesn't build or engineer much, if anything for the Buell. HD bought a majority share in the CO. Mainly because Beull's were equiped with HD motors and with the Rotax move it may prompt Eric Beull to buy back the controlling share in his CO. That would be the smart thing to do, being that the bike has been a failure with the HD motor and it will never sell the way it should sitting in a HD dealership where 99.9% of the costumers are looking for a cruiser with yesterdays technology at tomorrows prices.

Re: WOW! The new Buell !!

I agree. HD has only half heartedly made an attempt at any thing sporty. they bought a great motor design( v-rod), they could at least buy a better frame to put it in, The v-rod weighs over 600 pounds.i cant emagine it would be that hard to design a "sport standard" style frame and throw some good suspension and brakes on it.

why would you be happy with only half the  bike market if you could sell well to the whole maket? but it seems that HD is comfy in there little safe spot! that is a shame...

I can't totally agree with you on that one. From what I've seen and herd the bike does quite well with what it has . just think think the brand loyalty to hd wasn't such a good idea. it should be intresting to see how they do now that from a parts stand point they are self serving now, and not making do with some one elses crap!

Re: WOW! The new Buell !!

Buell "tried" to race in the AMA last year. And just look at the results, even with the rules 'bent' to allow them in. It's def not a race bike.

I wouldn't realy care if they droped the race program completely. just make a sport bike that can compete in the street market. It takes a lot of money to campain a race team and win. and I don't think BUELL can aford to win. club racers might have a chance but the big boys have an unlimited budget it seems. the only good I see from BUELL racing is race born R and D

I just read the evaluation in Motorcycle Consumer News.

Three facts were mentioned in the MCN article, any one of which would stop me from buying this bike, even if money were no object:

    1.  The engine must be dropped out of the frame in order to change spark plugs.

    2.  In slow traffice, the heat on the right thigh is unbearable, even while wearing leather pants.

    3.  The bike had the longest stopping distance, 60-0, of any sport bike ever tested by MCN.

However they were very impressed with the handling and acceleration.

first generation .......they still need to work the kinks out.  First you make it ......then you refine it. look at the cbr 900 legacy. by the time of it's demise it was a world class compeditor.

Those are not mutually exclusive goals. Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, etc. would not dump the cash they do into racing if it didn't sell bikes.

Re: WOW! The new Buell !!

True, but look at the success of the triumph 675. they decided they couldnt compete in factory 600 class as things were so they started the 675 project with no intension of racing. (though they do have  a big racing background to draw from). They ended up making the bike of the year. The bike became so popular that events started to form on there own (though not factory 600 that i know of)

So while its not probable, possible is a different story.........And  you cant help root for the little guy once in a while. HEHE.

I just want to see a viable american sportbike, so right now Buell seems to be the only game in town. To tell the truth I would even be happy with a naked standard. H/D had a prototype they leaked to the press, that was slated to go to europe instead of an american market. Instead of forward controls, it has cafe style controls, higher ride height, cafe bars and upswept exhaust.  Its not perfect, but it is a starting point. Maybe throw those concepts at a V-rod with buells tweaking to brakes and suspension????
