    Spin bike on side stand

Ok i know some of you have been wondering how to do it... well i found this on another board and figured it would help everyone out!

    http://www.structive.com/hosted/600rr/kickstand_pivot.wmv

Basic steps (works for me, others might do it slightly differently):

    1. Make sure there is adequate space on either side (right and left) of the bike for it to pivot freely without hitting anything.

    2. Approach bike from its left side. Standing right up against it, turn bars to full-lock right.

    3. Maintaining grip on the bars, pull the bike toward you until the entire bike is off the tires and being supported solely by the kickstand. You may want to practice this step several times until you get the hang of it and feel comfortable.

    4. You will need to find a "balance point" where the bike feels easy to rotate about. I have found that this (somewhat surprisingly) occurs when the nose of the bike is pointed slightly downward. Once you've found that point, shuffle backwards in small steps, rotating the bike about the kickstand until it's pointing the direction you want.

    5. Soak in the admiration of bystanders, and hop on!

God I need to learn how to do that. It's really a pain backing it out of my garage between 2 cars. I know what I'm practicing tonight :)

Re: Spin bike on side stand

I tried it a few times. I'm only 140 lbs and I had a hard time getting the bike to come up onto the stand. I think the biggest factor is getting the hang of how far you can lean it over and (for me atleast) knowing your stand isn't going to kaput.

A friend broke his Ducati 996 sidestand pivot like that, and scratched his fairings. Just to let you know...

Re: Spin bike on side stand

I have never been scared of the kick stand breaking. I did not preview the video but when I perform this on my f4i. I do not usually tilt it all the way towards me. I just tilt it soo both wheels are off the ground a bit and I can just twist it. Very manageable in my tiny shed where the bike is stored. Without that manuever I would be pushing the bike forward and backwards for ever.. :) You guys know what I mean. One time I did not have the kick stand all the way down and I was in a rush, I almost dropped the bike on me. : )I was able to catch it back and lift it back up. Wheewww!

*ps* I remember I was showing my friend do it on his ducati. And those kick stands are the worse. They do not stay still, I believe it swings back if it is not planted on the ground.. Well anyways.. his ducati barely had any fairings. I burnt my leg showing him how to turn the bike.

Exactly why I wouln't do it, I don't think those stands were made to withstand that kind of weight, it may not break for the first 100 times but who's to say it finally gives in at 101...OUCH!

Re: Spin bike on side stand

I only spin it if I have to. But I usually spin it in the opposite direction. Faster, easier to balance, feels safer.

Re: Spin bike on side stand

Not only am I straight up crazy, I'm short. LOL sadly.

The ball-busting effort to sit on the bike & move it around with your feet that don't plant fully is really unpleasant.

Yes, I could get off the bike & move it around, but sometimes the grounds not even/flat. Sometimes I have to tilt it uncomfortably away from myself while manuevering. etc, etc, etc.

So I bend the foot up a little. No biggie. I don't spin it ALL the time, just occasionally. I'd say once-twice a month, average.

Re: Spin bike on side stand

Not only can the side stand break, any side stand, but if you lean it enough you are going to bend the tip of it (the patch that goes on the ground). When you tilt it, the weight does not go on the part of the stand that connects to the bike, it goes on that patch and on its side, you will notice it when you put it down and it doesn't touch the ground with its entire surface...

I don't do it but can understand the need to use this technique by shorter people.

Re: Spin bike on side stand

My friend has a new R6 and those things look sick when you spin them around. When i first saw him do it my jaw just dropped! He did on fluid movement and it was way more aggressive then the video. That's just nuts

Re: Spin bike on side stand

I had to learn this, I keep my bike in my garage but it's full of stuff. It would take me a while moving it back and forth, I'm only 130lbs and I spin around real easy. I've done it a few times like at the mall and people are always amazed that my little a$$ could "pick the bike up". I remember the first time I did it in front of my dad he ran over thinking the bike was falling on my lap. That shit was hilarious!

Re: Spin bike on side stand

Good thread. Lot of people don't know how to do this and have to turn the bike around the long way, by going forward and backing up thing. When I first learned this trick a few years back, it has helped alot.
