Sugi thought that 1st person only applied to Sugi. Otherwise Sugi would also have to be Frog. In an alternate universe Sugi might be Frog, but Sugi hopes not.

SoCal fails to grasp this defense of the use of 2nd person pronouns, if indeed it is a defense.

Speaking in terms of speaking only first person speak, Sugi says that if Sugi called himself Frog then he would be Frog... but not. So if Sugi calls Frog, Frog then Frog is not Sugi, but Sugi is Sugi. Then if Sugi calls Frog, Sugi then Frog is Sugi. But only in an alternate universe.

Oddly enough, SoCal understands what Sugi is saying here.  However, SoCal still doesn't think this is a valid excuse for 2nd person violations.  Especially not from Sugi, who has been around this board, and consequently this thread, since Alexander defeated Darius at Issus.

    Re: Speaking in 3rd Person

Sugi claims Stephen Hawking's revised theory of black holes as a defense (the information paradox). Hawking's theory, in a nutshell, asserts that information going into a black hole is destroyed (this theory rankled the theoretical physics world to no end). However, there are many alternate universes and so in the alternate universe, the information never went into a black hole and therefore was not destroyed. Applied to the speaking in third person, Sugi says that in an alternate universe, Sugi never violated the third person rule. However, this rule only applies to Sugi since to invoke it, you must have a basic grasp of it (Sugi's grasp is very basic).

    Re: Speaking in 3rd Person

Sugi is touching upon quantum theory here, which just happens to be something of a hobby of SoCal's.  SoCal has actually read Hawking's "A Brief History of Time".  To refute Sugi's defense:
    1. The theory of alternate universes has yet to be proven.  It is just a theory.  Utilization of unproven theories is not valid.
    2. The Sugi guilty of 2nd person violations lives in THIS universe, and therefore even if alternate universes exist, SoCal is not lambasting THOSE Sugis, as they may indeed have avoided violations.
    3. Any entity close enough to witness the destruction of information via black hole would also be destroyed, thus causing a problem similar to the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle.
Another interesting Black Hole theory is that they can create matter.  This has theory deals with particles and their corresponding anti-particles constantly spontaneously "erupting" in space.  The theory states that near a black hole, some of the anti-particles must be sucked into the hole, which then results in the creation of matter in the form of the associated particles.

Finally, if any of this is interesting to anyone, SoCal highly recommends reading "The Elegant Universe" by Brian Greene, which talks about string theory, the theory that this universe is actually made up of 10 or 11 dimensions utilizing neat things called Calabai-Yau spaces, and generally explores the world at sizes smaller than Planck's constant.  It's a fascinating read, and most of it (not all, but most) is easily understood.

    Re: Speaking in 3rd Person

Perhaps SoCal misunderstood Sugi's reference of a black hole - in which case what went in would not have been destroyed at al... but not exactly anything Sugi or Socal would be interested in coming back out! Or would they?

Elegant Universe and A Brief History Of Time are one of SoCal's favorite books of possibilites - The dreams stuff is made of.

Regardless, Sugi and SoCal should be whipped for letting this thread span so many months at over 107 pages!!!!!

    Re: Speaking in 3rd Person

Sugi would like to refute one thing that SoCal said (F4i not 94). IIRC, Hawking did not discuss the non-destruction of information until 2004. Also, in observing quantum entanglement, Sugi could be in another universe. Which universe is the question. Sugi then states that this argument could become a philisophical one in which Sugi debates with his doppleganger whether or not SoCal (F4i), Camarogrl and SoCal (94) even exist. Sugi then decides his self in an alternate universe does not exist and then that he himself (Sugi... the one in this universe... maybe...) does not exist. Sugi surmizes that in metaphysical terms, nothing unreal exists. So Sugi is here trying to keep it real...

    Re: Speaking in 3rd Person

Pfffft.  Entanglement doesn't span universes.  A particle in this universe spins, and another particle in this universe mimics (or counter-mimics) it.  Just because they aren't sure why, doesn't mean it necessarily involves multiple universes.

*sigh* Sugi thought this was the most entertainment Sugi had in a while with this thread. Sugi says it was fun while it lasted.

Camarogrl has just realized that she is not seeing doubles. After all this time she has finally realized that there are two SoCal's. Maybe Sugi isn't so crazy after all. Confused

SoCal wonders if the other SoCal also resembles Vin Diesel and/or Jason Kidd?  SoCal also thinks that the other SoCal should start referring to himself as 94F2 to avoid (any further) confusion.
