    Re: F4i race tail

I'm back to answer some of the questions that you guys left me.  Sorry it took me awhile but I just got back from a road trip on the old 'Cane.  1200 miles in two days...850 the first day and the last 350 today.  That's about as much as this body can take but it was fun.  But anyways, about the 600rr tail piece everything should mount up easily but the rear seat is going to be a problem.  There is going to have to be major fabrications to make this seat support the weight of another rider.  I didn't have this problem because I went with a solo tail so I can't be of much help.  About the turn signals, I bought an adapter made for a trailer and integrates the break lights with the turn signals.  It works pretty slick and makes this really easy.  Next, the aluminium brackets can be seen clearly in this picture and trust me...it's nothing fancy.

And lastly it's not that weird to have a the rear brake fluid container exposed but usually you don't realize it.  Look at this bike for example.

Good luck and I hope this helps.

It'd say mount it up the way I did but keep everyone off the rear seat.  Other than that you're going to have to do some wielding.

    Re: F4i race tail

thanks. i tried to line it up and it seems to be a bit small. the rear brake fluid is preventing the plastic from fitting properly. did you place it above the brake fluid? or was it not a problem in your case? did you cut your rear peg? my rear peg is where my exhaust is bolted on to. i'll provide pics tomorrow to let everyone know my process.

any tips on cutting/reupholstering the seat? did you measure? i dont want to cut it too short and be left without a seat. Sad [:(]

i keep forgetting you put a f4i race tail. and mine is a RR tail.

    Re: F4i race tail

we used the factory  bracket for the brake resivoir.  we just bent it (carefully) so the metal tab points down instead of up.  used the same mounting hole, but this effectively lowers the rear brake resivoir so that the tail piece will fit.

as for the seat.  you can always cut off more foam, but putting foam back on is tricky.  take it slow.  cut and check fitment until you get it perfect.  we cut the plastic tray then we would cut the foam.  back and forth, cutting off the extra stuff little by little. dremel tool works great on the plastic and a saw or steak knife or even scissors works on the foam.  then use some vinyl (from a fabric store) to cover the foam and staple it tightly underneath.  it took us quite awhile to get the fit perfect, but it looks great if you take your time.  good luck.

    Re: F4i race tail

oh yea, and about the rear pegs, we took them off.  on the left side we just unbolted the whole bracket.  on the right side we took off the foot peg from the bracket and then removed the rear most bolt (of the three that keep the bracket on) and cut the long metal tubing where it meets up with the 2 shorter pieces that form a triangle where the peg mounts.  not a problem for us since it is a solo tail there won't be anyone on the back who would need the pegs.  maybe you want to try something different if you are planning on having a passenger.  taking off those brackets really cleans up the rear of the bike though.
