I'm thinking the level compress to the handlebar which then caused his fingers to be sliced off.... with them on the lever it owuldn't have happened.

Another good reason for me to get the Roll-a-click short levers. Wink [;)]

My point exactly.  So if you're really concerned about losing fingers in that scenario, you might as well ride with all 4 fingers covering the brake and clutch at all times.

If your hand strength is reduced, but you want to use less fingers, you may want to consider making the brakes more powerful: stainless lines, aggressive brake pads, racing brake lever, and always have fresh brake fluid in the bike. I can bring my bike down from triple digits pretty quick with one finger (although I use two).

    WORD YO

2 finger allows u to gun the throttle to match revs easily.  4 finger thing is cool cuz more leverage but man i can grab too much of it.  if u can gank it hard with 2 fingers i say go for it and just keep doing it but do it hard.  i don't think it's the # of fingers that slow u down but its your ability to slwo down, i'm sure there are people who can stop better than me with 1 finger even though i was told a phenominal braker i was outbraked by some gansta riders.  sooo, do what is your comfy with and keep doing it, fast and hard, bam bam and down shift and match rev, mmm mmm goood stuff

i use 2 finger to shfit also, abad sugggeted that long time ago and it's nice

but then again my brake lever is so bent that i can't even reach with 4 fingazz,,,,, Sad [:(]

Well if I had to choose which finger I wanted to keep, that would be the one.  Stick out tongue [:P]

    Re: Braking with 2 fingers

Using all 4 fingers, I feel, is not as safe.  with a few fingers still on the bars, you can control the bars seperately from the lever that you are putting pressure on.  I used to use 4 on both sides but have since changed and it has improved my riding a lot. I use my first 2 on the clutch.  I use my last 3 on the brake.  I know that's kind of weird but it's just more comfortable to me and I can still blip the throttle while braking.

This is how I ride all of the time, corners, wheelies and stoppies.

Its all personal preference.  I use two fingers because I then use my other fingers to blip the throttle as I'm downshifting.

But what do I know......Rossi uses 4 fingers.  Stick out tongue [:P]

And the guy still blips the throttle,  banana [:banana]

I use 2 mainly because my gloves have the  last 2 fingers attached to each other, and if i use 4 i can`t blip on the downshift

    Re: Braking with 2 fingers

2 fingers here. 4 is just too much braking and i have a hard time controlling/modulating it. still a newb here tho.

Once my new black shorty Pazzo Racing levers come in, I'll probably change my technique...

    Re: Braking with 2 fingers

They say with 4 fingers you have a tendency to grab harder then needed. You could have a unwanted stoppie with 4 fingers stick with 2.That comes from a riding tech book for street and track.

Stick out tongue [:P] Re: Braking with 2 fingers

Well for a long time I used 4 fingers on clutch and 2 fingers on brake.

Now I use 4 on both, im a motorcycle instructor now so teach 4 fingers, so have to do it myself :)

I do find that 2 finger braking gives you more feel for blipping throttle, but dont buy into the suggestion using 4 fingers cause a tendancy to grab brake or whatever, if it does for you then maybe you need to look at the way you are applying the front brake, rather than how many fingers you are using. :P

    Re: Braking with 2 fingers

I started riding on an '82 Kaw KZ550...which dictated that i use four fingers, so that's how i rode for a few years.  Once i was introduced to the amazing stopping power of modern sportbikes when i bought an F4, i slowly turned to the two finger method.  IMO, there's simply no need to use all four fingers, two gives enough to do stoppies for cryin' out loud...
