Again, just for the sake of keeping things accurate, your 190 mph was INDICATED, not actual, right?

Speedo's word on ratios.  Just like gears, once the ration is pinned it is constant!

That does increase as speed increases.  I didn't say 1 mph off at 35mph and 1 mph off at 140mph.  Ratio of 1/35 would mean 1mph err at 35 mph, and 4 mph err at 140 mph.  See how the err grows as speed increases!

Re: Top speed on a 1000rr?

Unless Honda has done something magical that none of the other manufacturers have done, you're still off a bit.

    1/35 is .02857

    if you're seeing 190 mph

by your equation you'd be seeing approx 5.4283 mph lesson the speedo.

You honestly think your CBR 1000 was hitting

    184.57 mph

Honestly?  How did Honda match the ZX-10 and Gixxer 1k type speeds .... with more mass and less HP again....

    ....run it by me again?

The pipe and power commander helps, but you are not adding 9 mph to your bike's top speed.  It doesn't work that way.

An honest 175 mph or so is more like it...meaning...the speedos don't always the same RATE of overly optimistic numbers.

I've seen 110+ indicated on a ninja 250 that doesn't go over 100, I've seen the same thing (times those numbers by 2) on my current 12R.  But at lower speeds they weren't off by the same ratio @ lower speeds.  When it gets faster they get WAAAY OFF!

Re: Top speed on a 1000rr?

I think I read somewhere during the testing of the CBR1000 that it ran a top speed of 191.8mph at which ever track they tested it on.

I know that I have had my 954 on the speedo at 181mph when the top speed on the bike is suppose to be 165mph. The speedometer on a 954 will stop at 187mph. So will the speedometer on a 2003 and 2004 GSXR 1000. Saw this with my own eyes on a dyno because I was on all 3 bikes. Also I have hears that the R1 stops at 187, but don't know that to be true. So unless Honda changed the speedo stop on the CBR1000 it should stop at 187 just like the other bikes. As far as the top speeds on the other bikes I have no clue. But I did see a top speed of 165 on the 954 in a print out online. But if the speedo stops at 187 on 03/04 GSXR's and 02/03 954's don't you get a kick out of people that say they have had their Gixxer at 195. How do they know...LOL

As for your friend saying he was hitting the rev limiter in 6th gear, I don't think the bike will pull hard enough to reach the rev limiter in 6th gear if it has stock gearing.

That was a factory Superbike not a stock 1000RR ;-)  I believe that was a radar reading taking on the banking at Daytona.  A stock 1000RR will not do 190mph.

Yeah maybe he wasn't shifting right and thought he was in 6th when really he wasn't.  Roads were very clear and straight otherwise we wouldn't have done it.  I thought about telling him to start the roll on in 6th gear from 60 mph or something but that would be pretty boring.

Chris, if you're reading this....sorry man but we'll have to switch bikes to prove if this was a fluke.  And sorry but I'm taking the bottle out, no ifs ands or buts!

man, i already told ya i was sandbaggin ;)  nah, i don't know.  that was the fastest i've ever gone so i was more concerned about looking at the road than the speedo.  i DO know that i was hitting the limiter and i was hunting for 7th gear.  we'll have to give it another go sometime...

if you were in 6th hitting the rev limiter you definetly saw more than 150mph on the speedo.  i doubt you were in the right gear if he was flying by you.....try 6th gear and pull throttle you'll be around 180mph with stock gearing

Re: Top speed on a 1000rr?

Roger that java. I just remember reading that somewhere. Didn't know if it was a stock bike or not. But hey my friend has a GIXXER 1000 that will do 180 in 5th gear...But hey it is a pukezuki, and they are faster than instant coffee right.

Re: Top speed on a 1000rr?

Turns out he must have not been in the right gear.  We ran again w/GPS and he got it up a bit higher... ;-)

145 on speedo was 142 on GPS

I think he saw 178 but I had the GPS off that time.

Re: Top speed on a 1000rr?

Not sure if it is any help here, I have a 2004 1000RR Yoshi R5 with Power Commander and top speed I hit the other day before I ran out of balls and road was 277KPH which I think is 172MPH and at that stage it was still pulling like a horse I have no idea what it would have topped out at but all I can say is that it was still really pulling hard at that speed.  Also I have no idea where on the street I would ever want to see those sorts of speeds but it didn't take long to get there.  Its not the bike its the rider that is the limiter in my opinion.  Good luck guys, this thing is surely a weapon.

Here is an idea tell him to shift out of 3rd gear.  LOL true top speed is around 182 I hear.

topped out my "06 1000rr at 180mph indicated on the speedometer, and I wasn't redlined in 6th gear.. Might be speed limited.

Re: Top speed on a 1000rr?

Thought you guys might want to read this article.  Here's an excerpt...

"A side note: During acceleration testing in our secluded test area, I had the chance to take a couple of the bikes to high speeds. I saw 173 mph on the CBR's speedo, but the VBOX logged just a 162-mph maximum, a 6.4% error.

Then it was time to go for a big number. I kept the ZX-10's throttle pinned after running the quarter-mile, and it continued to pile on speed at a ridiculous rate. In seconds the speedometer was reading more than 180 mph, and then climbed slower until it hit 186 mph. Then back to 185, then 186, then 185.

What did I prove (aside from being stupid enough to go that fast)? Two things. First, the speedy Kaw's computer has the Euro-mandated 300 kph (186 mph) speed limiter, which, by the way, cuts in very gently, unlike a rev limiter. Second, when you see 186 mph on your Kawi's speedo, you're actually only traveling a paltry 170 mph, according to the VBOX, an 8.6% error."

Re: Top speed on a 1000rr?

    Suicid,

Good read on the article, most long term riders learn that the speedo is way off on stock gearing. Which most people don't ride anyways then go -1 up front. To the avg Joe they want a number and that's about it, even though most stock bikes can't hit the number that is advertised because of Aero drag.

On a side note what part of ME are you from, before going into the military I called Presque Isle home.

Re: Top speed on a 1000rr?

anybody that says they go any faster than 186 is full of BS, all motorcycles sold in the US are limited by the computer to 186 from the factory (186mph=300km, speedo cannot read past 300km) and if speedo's are optimistic, then your 186 on the speedo isnt really 186.. is the bike CAPABLE of more? no doubt but your not going to get it unless you bypass that limiter somehow and correct your speedo to see what you are TRUELY going...

heard this from a the dealers mouth ^^^
