Re: F3 to F4I Gauge Swap

One more question, actually. When I turn the bike on, the oil light and temp light both flash and my temp gauge flashes 253 degrees... Did I just mix up a couple of wires?

Re: F3 to F4I Gauge Swap

CBRf23, thanks for the reply. That wasn't my question though... what I was trying to say was, does this affect how accurate my mileage reads? For example, I travel 2 miles, but only go 1.7 on the odometer? I think someone insinuated that this happens above ("My mileage read less than what it's supposed to be"). Is it true, and is there a way to fix it? Don't mean to clutter the thread, but I would like to know - this would be important to me! How can I brag about my gas mileage if my odometer is off? :-D Thanks again for your help.

Re: F3 to F4I Gauge Swap

Well, the mileage may be due to the fact that the gear ratios on f3 arent the same as the f4i - which would also mean the speedo would be off.  I imagine a speedo healer would fix this problem.  Not postive, but i woudl think that would be it.

The temp gauge will not function unless you do like lp2 explained and swap the f3 temp sensor for the f4i sensor.  The thermostatic switch that controls the fan will still work!  You just will not be able to see the exact temperature and that light will flash on the gauges.

No worries bout cluttering the thread, the guides all at the top, so that doesnt get interrupted, and I am sure people have the same questions so its good to get q&a all in one spot.

Re: F3 to F4I Gauge Swap

Would this mod work on a 94 F2?

Re: F3 to F4I Gauge Swap

No.  The mechanically driven speedometer on the F2 will not work with F4i gauges.  There are ways around this though if you're willing to do extra work and kind of be a guinea pig.

You can't figure out how to mount it?  Come on man - get a little creative and adventurous.  But if you really need a tutorial, standby.

UH OH! i think i see another tutorial coming by....lol im not going to do the mod, i was just makin a statement for the crowd.. ya know my worthless 2 cents i always have to put in.  i mean you have the actual swap tutorial, now all you need is the mount to make it a complete setup.

Actually, there's one more part - Getting the temp sensor to work.  I will provide that tutorial soon.

Re: F3 to F4I Gauge Swap

Some guys have modified f4i stays to work.  Or you could just make a cardboard template of the bottom of the gauges and then cut it out of metal and attach it to your extisting stay.

I would have covered that part, but seeing as I dont have an existing fairing stay, no dice...

According to lp2, you just have to re-tap the hole where the temp sensor goes in with the correct thread for the f4i sensor.

Re: F3 to F4I Gauge Swap

has anyone tried f4 to f4i dash swap? would it be the same as f3-f4i?

Re: F3 to F4I Gauge Swap

I've seen it done, I believe the only thing that was a bit hard was the following:

o Need to change the speedo sensor to the F4I.
o The temp gauge I believe was also different need to convert to the F4I
o Your fuel gauge will not work on the F4I gauges.

    Good luck

Re: F3 to F4I Gauge Swap

It may not be entirely necessary but it might be a good idea to put a fuse in the power to the F4i gauges.  I'm sure when they are in an F4i they have one.  If anyone knows the amperage please share it (15amp maybe?).
