True. Had an incident where someone called the cops on me. Police called, told me their side of the story and asked for mine. We of course had 2 different interpretations. I had the feeling that the cop really couldn't do anything because it was my word against someone else's with no witnesses but had the obligation to at least follow through as a "public service."  It ended there.

Being an officer and a sportbike owner I try to cut other sportbikers as much of a break as I can, that being said.

 

An officer doesn't have to catch the person on the bike. They just have to get close enough to get your tag. Once thats done they can get all your info and issue a warrant for your arrest and soon you'll be getting a knock on your front door. Depending on who comes to serve the warrant. You may get a soft knock or a hard knock which would result in your door coming off the hindges.

As someone already stated. You most likely can out run a patrol unit. If you can ride better than the average person you can prolly lose the cops on a road with lots of corners, most of today's newer cops (me included) are being taught more tactical driving at the police academy than in the past. But none the less, you will not be able to outrun a radio. The state I work in, it doesn't matter about who's on your bike. If we get your plate number and you've so happen to loaned your bike to a friend who's running, its your bike so its your respondsibility. Same with DUIs.If you knowingly loan an intoxicated person your vehicle, you too will be charged with DUI.

 

Not to mention ppl talk so it wouldn't be hard to find out who owns a certain color bike. Then narrow it down from there. Just my $0.02, in the end its not worth the risk, money, jail time etc.and all just so you can tell your friends you ran from the cops. lol

I worked a sportbike wreck a few months back. Some 16 year old kid decided to run from the police and ended up hitting a road sign which severed his left leg completely off. I had to hold it on while EMS worked on keeping him alive.....like I said, it ain't worth the risk. You want to play, then expect to get caught, be a man and take the ticket and be done with it. Don't risk your life as well as others.

regardless of driver skill most police vehicles can not keep up with a bike ridden by anyone who knows how to ride semi-decently but anyways, what state do you work in? these laws sound motivated by money, if someone gets in an accident and kills someone while driving a friends car, do you charge the owner with vehicular manslaughter(or whatever the charge would be) also? if they answer is no, which i'm assuming it is, why not? because its not increasing money for the state/city?

and abiding by laws doesn't make you a man, thats like saying dont be scared of the cops, be a man and run, neither case makes you a man, especially since theres a fair amount of laws that aren't designed for the safety of the public but for the pockets of statesman and politicians

I dont agree much with your statment. I think most will agree that "being a man" means in its most simple terms to do the right thing, to take responsibility for your actions and to protect your self as well as your fellow man.

If you loan your car to a friend knowing he is intoxicated, then yes your are responsible for his actions in the vehicle. And if you know that your friend is likley to drive drunk (most of us know our friends that well) and you let him take it , well.......your still responsible. I realy dont think youll ever hear some one tell you to "BE A MAN AND RUN". And if you did I realy dont think that the idiot saying this would have much pull with any one over the age of 6.

If you ran from me and I got your plates and I couldnt locate you in a couple hours you better belive that I would be at the prosecutors office the next morning swearing out a Felony Warrant for your arrest. This comes with all kinds of benefits like me showing up at your front door and a police K9 out back (just in case you try to flee on foot). It also allows me to force entry and pry open every locked door in your house. Oh, and bet I will show up at your work.

Then there is always the odd chance that I will see you while I am on my bike. ;)

Don't run. It just makes you a jackass and has the potential to end the time you have left on this planet.

The last guy we had run not only got himself thrown in jail and his bike impounded, but he got his buddy hemmed up too since he convinced him to lie to cover it up.

That is not hearsay!  Anything experienced firsthand by a witness is admissable.  So for example, if I witness Tahoe and Sugi doing the nasty, that is admissable.

Hearsay is something that is not witnessed firsthand.  Using the same example, if PoPo said, "Abad told me that he saw Tahoe and Sugi doing the nasty.", that would not be admissable.  In order for that testimony to be entered into a trial, the court would have to subpoena me and have me enter that testimony.

So in this example, a witness calling in plates is admissable and enough for a police officer to cite (or arrest).  However, if the witness does not present the testimony (whether firsthand or an affidavit), it would not be admissable.  Of course, you (or your lawyer) would have the right to cross-examine this witness' testimony to discredit it in some way ("How far were you from the bike?", "What speed were you driving?", "If the bike was alledgedly going so fast, how were you able to see the plates?", "Even if your testimony were true, how do you know the rider was the defendant?").

One day after school me and a friend were racing another friend home. We were in a Mitsubishi Evo 8 and the other guy was in a mustang GT. We were going about 150 when a truck pulled out in front of us when we got within about 40-50 yards from him. We almost rear ended him (Thank you awesome brakes lol). The next day the cops pulled my friend out of class and said that someone had turned in his plates for reckless driving (Probably the truck). They gave him a warning. My brother in law is an ex cop and he said that the cops can't do anything unless it was wittnessed by an officer or there is evidence that someone can produce proving the "Reckless driving". I live in NM, and I'm not sure if the rules are the same everywhere.
