Re: WOW! The new Buell !!

    I give up.....

I've been trying to understand which model you guys are talking about, but not once did anyone drop it's name (and since I do not know all of Buell's past line up, looking at Buell's web-site does not help either).

Is it the 1125R? (I did not think that it was so new)Confused

Thats the one, but the first post was several months ago when it was just coming out of wraps so to speak.

Re: WOW! The new Buell !!

I ride with/on Buells all the time. The XB9 and XB12 series are insane in the tight corners and regularly undercut other bikes while using less body lean. The baking distance as reported is more an issue with wheelbase than braking power - the brakes grab very hard! Some maintenance does require dropping the engine, but not like you think. It's a 10 minute job to rotate the engine forward and down to access the rear cyl - air cooled so nothing is in the way.The 5 speed on the XB is a bit of a limitation as it runs out of juice around 145 mph, sucks at 1st gear downshifts and is clunky like a sportster overall (old tech, not sporty). The vibration at the pegs and heat are an issue with the XB's as well.  The 1125's I ride with are amazingly similar to my Aprilia. both are Rotax V-twins although I favor the Aprilia overall as it feels more refined and has the reliability of a Honda!!!. The 1125 has some fuel heating issues and fuelling is rather poor at low rpm under load.  It does have a good chunk of power and definately gets attention wherever it goes. It's never been what I'd call good looking but beside the new CR1125 looks much better than before - that thing is really ugly!

Re: WOW! The new Buell !!

I like it, but why can't an American manufacturer just make a liquid cooled 600cc inline 4 like everyone else? :(

I want some American competition on the main stage (600 and 1000cc racing).  The 1125 is a step in the right direction, but Buell isn't Ducati...  They need to start learning lessons from the Japanese and Italian manufacturers rather than trying to be so damn 'innovative.'

to me the buell is a great  street bike, and a poor race bike.  I hope some day they'll make good track bikes, but there just aren't enough spare or aftermarket parts for them right now.

I'm sticking with Honda or Yamaha for the forseable future.

Re: WOW! The new Buell !!

I think your answer is directly related to the amount of money the "BIG 4" spend on racing and R&D for race proven parts.Buel is a little fish in a big sea and Mom (H.D.) is a real cheap skate that just dosent get these kids and has no intrest to.......

Check into Fisher. (I think thats right) Their an upstart company headed by a former GP racer. Top shelf frame and parts with a Hyosung 650 motor and trany. Bikes are hand built one at a time from their shop here on  Marylands Eastern Shore, in the sleepy ( and seriosly back woods) town of Pocamoke on the border near Va. Cycle world did a story (Sir Allen Cathcart) on them and the bike a couple of years ago, but I cant find a link any more they might have folded up?!?

Re: WOW! The new Buell !!

it's funny how 'most' Yanks don't like the Buells for the reasons 'most' Britts do like 'em...summat different, summat quirky, summat a bit clever, it's just the engine that'd bother me. If they could drop the aprilia rotax in there i'd be seriously looking.

on that note, here's a picture of a horse that looks like a dog

Re: WOW! The new Buell !!

yeah there is a huge difference in culture, style wise. Street fighters or hooligan bikes have been popular basicly all over Europe, but only a luke warm welcome here. I have always liked em, but i doubt i would ever own one my self. Same goes for the buell......

Ive noticed the same quirky difference between British and American humor. With a few exceptions There is a large gap.....not good or bad mind you, just different.

Just a vast difference in culture in general...It kinda neat to peer over the fence once in a while though and see what you guys are up to, gives me a different angle on things, gets you thinking out of your normal little box.

Re: WOW! The new Buell !!

not sooooo different, supersports still outsell everything else over here, by a long way. Not many buy buells, but most like 'em, and respect 'em as summat different

now go out and rip the plastics of that Blade, stick some renthals on and a headlight, go on, you knwo you wanna

LOL!!  No I like my full fairig look, But I got a 97 daytona ,that would make for an easy speed triple conversion with off the shelfparts. Just have to find a new 3banger since this one went POP at about 15000 miles on me. Thats how I came to get a blade in the first place.

Re: WOW! The new Buell !!

Not this one, I cried for a week I think. God I loved that bike!!!

Here the buell doesnt get any respect, looked at as basicly a joke. Guys just see HP. numbers and  top speed and write them off. i do like em though, almost got one, but got a better deal on the blade instead...havent regeted it, but I'd do one asa second bike in a heart beat.

yeah...i rode with my dad to the HD dealership cuz he wanted some accessories...i was immediatly drawn to the Buells...then the dealer gave me a brochure of the new ones commin out....they are fricken sweet....can't beat the sound either...what drew my attention though was an 04 xb12s lightning.  about the only thing i found bad about it was its only a 5 speed....looking at tradin in the 97 f3 for it.  What do you all think...would i be an idiot...

You will regret it! The f3 is a great all around sportbike and the buell is an HD piece of garbage!!

Re: WOW! The new Buell !!

I dont know if id go that far, TROUBLE. The Buell has more torque(and I mean lots), better brakes, lower center of gravity and better riding position( matter of taste, but for the street arguabley better).

So in the hands of decent rider, the buell is easier to take to the edge more often and for longer periods . And while the drivetrain is HD (S&S) it isnt that bad of a mill. The company got a bad reputation during the the AMX years(late 70's to 80's) when it was controled from out side the davidson family. When the family got control back the quaility came back too. If the older buells had a 6th gear they would have posed a much biger problem for sportbikes... Eric has good ideas, he just dosent have the time and research money to chatch up to japan and the exotics, that have dominated for years already. Its like reworking the VW beetle into a supper car......many would say it cant be done. But check into the history of Porsche, there first offerings where hoped up VW's for racing...look at them now......
