Re: F4i Dual Headlight Mod
their are a few different 5MM connectors, but some are prolly straight, or right angle.. but i know those J10's work.. also, you might want to show this to the parts counter.. i used a 1997 civic 4 door... and its the electrical connector that feeds the headlight.
enjoy.

Re: F4i Dual Headlight Mod
the yellow wire is a right side spade connector, but its wierd its bigger and flatter than a regular spade so you need the special yellow wire to do it right, but i just ran a wire down to the socket and soldered it on

Re: F4i Dual Headlight Mod
only problem with running the wire into the socket, and soildering it in... its prolly a good connection, but you will never be able to unplug it... in the case your bulb goes out.
get all the parts, and do it right.

Re: F4i Dual Headlight Mod
Sweet mod did mine last night while watching GA game. I didnt use the special wires tho i just used 90* spades from auto zone and unrolled the back to match the length of the stock ones and then rolled it back over the wire and lightly crimped it, then soldered it for no slip good connection.
Question tho- Did any of you have to adjust your head lights?
long time dirt short time street and lovin it

Re: F4i Dual Headlight Mod
when you do this mod, when you turn on the highbeam do both lights now serve as highbeams or still just the one ?
Also, guy who is a fellow canadian, care to sell some of the spare wires to a fellow Canuck in Ontario ?
thanks

Re: F4i Dual Headlight Mod
Hey Dave
I still haven't done this mod yet, I'm just waiting to get some free time.....but by changing your bulbs and rewiring, both serve as lowbeams and both serve as highbeams.
As for the wires, all mine are unfortunately already taken, but just go to the website I mentioned before and you'll get them quickly.

Re: F4i Dual Headlight Mod
Great Mod. Something to note on this mod though that I found after completing it. The left headlight lense defracts differently than the right headlight which can make high and low beam with the dual H4's seem a little funky unless you alternate one of the lights to be opposite of the other (one high one low as the low beam). If you keep the stock H7 bulbs but configure your relays to only run one H7 on low beam but both lights at high beam, the headlight coverage is just as good on highbeam and the single light on low beam is much less of a load when peaking the rpm's in the daylight. :)

Re: F4i Dual Headlight Mod
Guys- the wierdest thing happened tonight when I was doing this mod. So I did all the wiring, soldered and taped all the connections. Once I was done before cutting and fitting the H4s I decided to just plug them in to see if everything was right. Sure thing everything is working: high-low-high-low no problem.
I turn everything off, leave and come back 10 min later. Just for fun I turn the bike on again, nothing. Both bulbs dont turn on. (and they just did before !?!?)
What do u think happened? The bulbs were maybe turned on out of their housing for maybe 10 seconds. They look fine. I was going to test to see if I get current at the socket but then I wondered, if 1 bulb is unplugged, will the other still have current?
do you think its the bulb?
did you guys have to change a fuse when doing this mod?
Thanks

Re: F4i Dual Headlight Mod
im going to try and take a stab at this. but im not completely sure of what the relation of the ign. switch and the engine starter button have together.
i did this mod, and it worked great for about a week. then out of no where, my headlights went out.. the bike ran, the blinkers worked, the taillight worked, but no headlights.. no high beam either. after loosing my lights on the freeway at night, i coudldn't continue to ride my bike since i had no forward lights.
this mod takes the H7's are replaces them with H4's.. the H7's are single filamnet bulbs, while the H4's are dual.. low and high beam. the mod basicly connects both bulbs, so that both low beams are on together. if you think about it.. your doubling the current draw through the circuit.
well, my 2004 couldn't handle it. after hours and hours of tracking down the short, or broken circuit. i found the break in the circuit at the starter button. yeah.. that button you have to push to crank over the engine. if you look in a diagram, or even start disembling your bike, you'll find that there's a few connections that are soildered into the switch.. its been a while since i fixed my bike, but i want to say ECU, battery, starter, and headlight. the idea behind making the source of the headlight at the starter button, is when you start your bike.. you need all the amps possible, and the push button shuts out the headlight, while your cranking. when you let go, the connection is complete again, and your headlights are back on.
so.. after fixing that.. i put everything back together. i had everything off.. just short of pulling the complete wiring harness.. it took hours to diagnose the problem. i went to start the bike, key on, the headlights were on.. the bike cranked over.. but no fire. no fuel prime either.
i was completely lost. ive been in this bike prolly 20 hours by now. ive inspected each connector, each sensor, replaced the bank angle.. tested the kickstand. i for the love of god could not figure it out. i physcally removed every sensor in the starting system and bench tested them, including the ign. switch. but after reading about starting problems, and searching this board, and cbrforum.com, i found out guys had been having problems with ignition switches.. even though they might test out ok, they'res a diode inside that goes bad.. and even the dealer had no idea or even heard about this diode. diodes are testable, and mine was blown.. but i have no idea what good it did or what purpose the diode does.
long story short. i replaced the ignition switch. the bike has been running ever since.
and the extra bulb draws too much current and isn't safe for the bike. infact, i might have a couple of pics.. i'll check.

Re: F4i Dual Headlight Mod
thats the insides of the ignition switch. now, i diode's only purpose is to allow the flow of current 1 way. when i test it both ways, i get nothing. again, i have no clue what good a diode does in the ignition switch, and im quite curious to see if diodes are common in car ignition switches also.. hrm. and a couple of random pics.. i was very close to pulling the complete engine harness.. i almost bought another ECU on ebay.. i had made calls all over the states to motorheads for advice... this damn ignition switch drove me crazy.

as you can see... the blue/white wire has broke its contact, and came loose. this is the source of the headlights. repaired... i used a fine point soilder iron.

Re: F4i Dual Headlight Mod
i would imagine.. that if your bike doens't start.. if it cranks or the fuel pump doens't prime, your going to need a ignition switch.
as for the headlights, ide bet money its that blue wire at the engine starter button.
my bike ran without the headlights, it wasn't untill i got home, it wouldn't run. so, if your bike runs, but no headlights, look at that connection. its kinda difficuilt since you have to remove the throttle and twist grip, but it can be done.
