    Spark Plugs 101

Q:  What spark plugs should I use on my bike?

A:  The OEM spark plug (or equivalent) is recommended.  Only use a different plug if you have modified or tuned your engine to use such.  The OEM plugs are listed as follows:

    BIKE                                     NGK std                          NGK iridium
    87 - 90 CBR 600 F                  DPR8EA-9                           DPR8EIX-9
    91 - 00 CBR 600 F2/F3/F4        CR9EH-9                            CR9EHIX-9
    01 - 05 CBR 600 F4i                    N/A                                IMR9C-9H
    03 - 05 CBR 600 RR                    N/A                               IMR9C-9HES
    93 - 99 CBR 900 RR                 CR9EH-9                            CR9EHIX-9
    00 - 03 CBR 929/954 RR              N/A                                IMR9C-9H
    04 - 05 CBR 1000 RR                   N/A                              IMR9C-9HES
    97 - 03 CBR 1100 XX              CR9EHVX-9                          IMR9C-9H

Q:  What do those numbers mean?

A:  From NGK's web site:  definition of part numbers

Q:  What can a spark plug tell me about my engine?

A:  Here are two great online articles on how to "read" a spark plug:  article1, article2

Q:  How often should spark plugs be replaced?

A:  Check your owner's or service manual for the replacement interval.
