    i'm creating a website!

    http://www.woody-racing.com/

check it out!  hopefully in the next couple months I'll have a business started, but I went ahead and started working on the website while I get the business stuff worked out

so far I think I'm doin okay, considering i've got zero experience at designing websites and i'm using microsoft publisher (PITA btw)

I'd appreciate if some of ya'll experts would take a look around and tell me which parts suck the most so I can get the bugs out before the business goes online

btw its been too dang long since i've been to cbrworld, its ran really slow for me for a while now (i'm on dial up so by slow I mean taking 20 minutes to load, not 20 seconds lol)

    Re: i'm creating a website!

My recommendation would be to have a professional build your website. The reason is, you have a lot of void space, your webpage may not be viewable in Firefox or Apple browsers, your webpage may not look right in those browsers if they are viewable, etc...

If you are starting a business, you need to look professional, and quite frankly, your page won't fit the bill.

Here is an example of a business I helped start. We utilize a flash intro, with a simple layout, but still very functional and easy to browse. http://www.acsastech.com/

    Here's my race page from 2005: http://www.acsastech.com/acsas-racing/home.html

And now we are finishing off our Akuma Helmets website. This is a very trick webpage, utilizing a lot of code, which is one reason why a professional needs to do this kind of stuff: www.akumahelmets.com (Site was delayed for a couple more days, since a new product had to be added to the site. Should be up today or tomorrow.)

    Re: i'm creating a website!

thanks for the input, it seems like it would be a better investment for me to learn how to do it well, rather than paying someone to do it

I should have dreamweaver or frontpage by the end of the week and have no problem learning html coding and whatever else I need, its winter so its not like i'm gonna be out riding much anyway.

my thought is that if I learn to do it myself, I'll have a valuable skill for the future and be able to make changes to my own sites.  and honestly i've got the time to learn to do it

I do want to keep it simple, something similar to indysuperbikes

I've got a long list of things to change, I just kinda put whats up there together the night after I registered the site, so its not like i put too much time into it.  The first thing is to change the color scheme, navigation, all the text has to acutally be text, rather than images (publisher only has like 5 fonts so I used photoshop to make all the text into images, which is whats making it load so slow on dial-up.

also the image at the top of the screen was just my forums sig with a few small changes, thats gotta be completely replaced

I'm looking into taking some night classes to learn this stuff if necessary (they're free so why not? lol)

yeah, it will definetly benefit you in the long run to learn a great amount of code and stuff.  So far it seems a little blah, but if it's a progressive thing then it can only get better.

to be honest i'm not a fan of the fancy dancy sites with shockwave and everything, it's too much mumble jumble.  i like the simple, read-able  and easy nav. sites.

Don't bother with Frontpage. It's like Publisher. It's only used for simple layouts.

But like I said, the issue isn't what program you use, but the fact that certain navigators won't see your page, or won't see it properly. I have this problem using Frontpage. Firefox and whatever Mac's use, either can't see the site, or it looks all messed up.

    Microsoft is discontinuing FrontPage.

I have older versions of Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Flash, and like them alot.
