easier?? standups or sit down wheelies?

someone once told me that standup wheelies are easier because you can get your sense of balance better when your standing up . is there any truth to this. i mean you would think sitting down would be easier, but what do i know. let me know what you guys think?

I would have to agree with your friend....SOMEWHAT. I feel more comfortable standing up because I can actually see where I'm going without having to look around the bike. On the other hand I never had a bad tank slapper untill I started doing stand-ups.

Re: easier?? standups or sit down wheelies?

yeah standups are easier....... but when you are first starting you'll feel more confertable w/ sitdown....... but riding a good sitdown wheelie is definitly too much fun....... i cant see over the windscreen when im riding a sitdown wheelie (i dont think anyone can and ride bp at the same time..... im 6'2'') looking to the side helps but it throws me off so i just look at whats in front of me and just remember in my pereferal vision
here is some pics of me just to give u a idea.
you can go alot higher than the pic but you get the idea

and here is a sitdown.... its just the first person view that would throw u off in my opinion.

When the front wheel comes down, be on the gas...it'll help settle the front end and keep the bike going straight.

I've never wheelied a street bike, just some dirt advice...

Sitdowns are easier to learn but once you learn to do standups they are easier to ride. Hell, they both are easy as f*ck once you learn them.

Re: easier?? standups or sit down wheelies?

Im a small guy, 6' 140lbs, and on my F2 it seems like stand up is easier too, i dont have alot of muscle mass to manuver the bike while sitting, but if i take off at a roll probably 20mph in second, rev and pop the clutch at the same time as hopping onto the rearseat works awesome.. Now the front goes light(comes up) real fast so dont try to be a badass right off it will only f**k you up as well as your bike and remember as soon as your left foot is steady(which needs to be pretty quick) get that right foot back down were you have control of the rear brake to bring the front back down..

Re: easier?? standups or sit down wheelies?

I can't get comfortable cutching. so I stick to power wheellies in first n sec. is clutching any easier to control or gain confidence with? since sitdowns in second happen at like 50 mph. I don't know , I've slacked off on thewheelies a lot . but its still good to keep a feel for em, since from time to time they happen spontainiously weather you are ready or not.

You can't get comfortable with clutching, yet you ARE comfortable with POWER WHEELIES?!

Power wheelies when new to wheelies, IMO, are SCARY AS ALL HELL!

Getting into power band, and just banging open the throttle hoping for the best..

The problem is, as your wheelie comes up, you need LESS power..  Yet your getting into power band, and getting more power..

Go out and try to clutch up 30 wheelies in a row..  once you do 30 in a row, I bet you'll be more comfortable with the clutch..

I personally did a total of about 20-30 power wheelies, before I fianlly said "Screw it, I gotta try the clutch" then after about 10-20 clutch wheelies, I never went back

Re: easier?? standups or sit down wheelies?

ive never had any real problem with power wheelies. to me they come up smooth, of coarse i cant compare.........but -1 in the front  makes enough power that it just floats right up. i think my real problem with clutching is not being comfortable with lessening the grip my left hand has on the hand grip(more than likley just in my head). any rate thanks for the advise, ill try it a few more times, n see if it gets to feel better for me.

How do you grip your clutch?  Do you use all 4 fingers?

If so, try using 1 or 2 fingers..  At first 2 fingers will be easier, but once you work up the strength, 1 finger IMO is the way to go.

I always 1 finger my clutch, but then again I have a ez pull clutch setup..

But that maakes it so you don't have to let go :)

Re: easier?? standups or sit down wheelies?

I have a msr easy pull clutch lever, and i can pull it with one finger bit it still has quite a pull. like i said it might just be in my head. how much do you slip it to get it going ?

Re: easier?? standups or sit down wheelies?

even my old 92 900 power stands easy as.

i used to clutch up my 250 and did on my 900 when i first started but once you have to replace a clutch unnessasraly early you find other methods of getting it up.

sitting down is cruisy and standing up gives me more control but i find i can wheely faster on a sitdown. had it up to 190Kmph on a sit down once.
