Hi,

I have a 1990 CBR 600 and well here's my story.

One day on a clear sunny San Diego afternoon I was riding down the freeway enjoying the sights, the sounds, the prowl of the 600 when it started to sputter and slow...then die...on the freeway.  Luckily I was to the right of traffic and close to an off ramp...unluckily I was close to a Steep uphill offramp.

Hours later and much huffing and puffing it was back safely in my place (with the help of UHaul and a very nice FedEx Trucker).

A month later (work, relationship, the facts of life) I went to check on my bike again.  Turned it on and it cranked, dimmed, and died.  I tried bump starting it with a few of my friends but that was a no go.  So I went out to buy a new battery and to get more gas.  I came back filled it with gas and replaced the battery. 

The 600 cranked but wouldn't catch, a moment of pondering a thrown prayer up, and another start...whiir whiir whiiir click Varroooom. Huurray! 

Friend: "Hey it's spilling something on the floor!"
Friend2: "Holy **** It's Gas! Get off! Get off!"
Me: *Kill Switch* *Kick Stand* *Pulls Key* *Jumps Off* O_O

We let the gas dry and didn't try to start it again.  So my question is what could of caused it to rain all that fuel on my starter?  It looked like it came from my carburator but what specifically?  My friend says it might be the fuel pump but I'm not that mechanically inclined.  Any help would be appreciated! 

your bike has no fuel pump.  the carbs do have vents(kinda) that can spew fuel if the float levels are not correct.  not exactly an easy fix, but it could be that something else is wrong.  petcock might be busted or maybe just a fuel line broke.  if you are not mechanically inclined, u might just need to take it to a pro to figure it out.  hell, i could lend u a hand when i have some free time if u want me to take a look at it. 

u really should attempt to re-create this problem and see exactly where the fuel is coming out of.  dont worry so much bout igniting the gas as its very unlikely, of course im only saying that assuming u have a fire extinguisher handy.  if u can give everyone here a better idea of where the gas is coming from, we should be able to help.
