    Re: stolen bike on tape!

I want to just run a hot wire through my bike with a cut off that will send like 200 volts through ya if you touch it, but I will be nice and have  a sign on it.

    Re: stolen bike on tape!

that was insane, i cannot believe how easy it is to steal a bike. its too bad all survailance cams have such low resolution, otherwise they would be cought.

what the hell is the point in survailance cams if you can never see who did the crime? just to confirm? yes sir, your bike was indeed stolen... no *** ***, i parked it here, its not here anymore, i called the tow and no one towed it.

look at how easy it is to break the stearing lock:

I'm sure a fellow NJ resident like loyalty will agree with me when I say that this is why my bike will never see NYC unless I have a private garage to park in.

    Re: stolen bike on tape!

Don't just think that just happens in NY.......London had the highest bike theft rate for all of Ontario a couple of summers ago.  The bike theif's would steal a Dodge minivan, dump the rear seats out of it, throw the bike in the back, then either re-vin the bike, sell it for parts, or use it for a track bike.  It got sooo bad that people were riding around on Harley V-Rods with a "Homebuilt" vin on it......LOL....it didn't look any different then one off the showroom floor except for the Homebuilt vin.....(I have a friend who's on the  Auto theft squad for the city police....LOL)

I an a firm believer in the out of sight , out of mind.  Don't advertise to the public.  I never leave my garage door open longer than it takes to move the bike outside.  Yes it is a PITA, especially when washing/cleaning it, but better to be safe than sorry.

    Re: stolen bike on tape!

How do you combat this problem, short of never riding?? I use my bike as my everyday vehicle, and i don't like the idea of someone making off with my baby if i'm at a store or a park or where ever :(... i just saw all those videos and now i'm scared to leave it anywhere. so far i had someone suggest GPS system that notifies your cell phone when your bike moves and you aren't with it.. is this the only thing i can do? any suggestions?

    Re: stolen bike on tape!

how to combat? only use your bike for your ride away from home and the next stop you leave your eyes off it will be at home. everything in between, you're w/in visual distance. that also means the bike can't be used for practical purposes though.

    Re: stolen bike on tape!

In my opinion...that's retarded :( ..... i don't think i can NOT use it for practicle reasons... the only time i use the car is for groceroies, heavy rain, hella wind, Armogedon, and if the sky ends up falling...otherwise I'm on 2 wheels flying down my concrete sky! (I'm that guy you see riding all through winter!) I'll keep looking for other methods i.e. loud alarms/locks/whatever.... online or anything of the sort and if anyone produces it...

    Re: stolen bike on tape!

I bought this disc lock with alarm on ebay for $70. It is really loud and is also a lock. I won't be able to forget and drive off with it on either since it is alarmed. http://www.xenasecurity.com/product/motorbikes/alarm/XRSeries/XR1red/page1/ It works very nicely and gives me confidence. If nothing else it will atleast make somewhat honest people stay honest or make planned thieves move on to the next bike instead of my baby!

    Re: stolen bike on tape!

wtf That is insane. I would of never thought that a bike would fit through a minivan's door like that.
