    600F2 to 900RR swingarm swap

So here is a little run through on how I put a swingarm from a 1999 CBR 900RR in my 1992 CBR 600F2. Enjoy.

So, here is the final product.

    1. so, the day of at the shop. We brought the bike over on the back of a pickup and unloaded it with the crane at work... I would say that was much easier than hand loading it at home.

2.First I had to machine off about 3/8" from each side of the swingarm just so it would fit into my bike. I later realized I would only have had to machine off a chunk from the front of the tube rather than taking as much as I took off, then getting it all re-welded. But, hindsight is always 20-20...

    3. These are the stock suspension brackets for the CBR 600F2.

    4. They had to go... so I, with the help of my trusty grinder took care of them.

    5. and there you have it, smooth as a baby's bottom.

    6. Measuring is key, as I realized when I had everything put together and had to extent my kick stand to make the bike sit on the right angle when it was down. Adding the extra inch that I thought would just make it look cooler turned into more troubles that I expected. 1. kickstand was now to short. 2. seat is not tilted further forward making a passenger slide into me with mostly every bump. (annoying on a long ride)

    7. Next I decided where I was going to put the new brackets for the rear shock.

    8. And I tacked them on.

    9. making sure everything was true on the bottom end I took the other two brackets and welded them together with a plate on the top to start measuring up the top end.

    10. I lined it up with the angle of the subframe to make everything cosmetically fit.

    11. Next I welded in the support brackets. it is very handy having a bike with a complete steel frame. this mod would have been 10 times harder on an aluminum frame bike.

    12. Looking good to me

    13. Side angle. Note now the 90 degree angle of the shock, very different from the 45 it would have been on stock with this bike, and very cool looking. Now that everything is done I should think about my exhaust system.

    14. New shorty Yosh pipe thanks to Ian Dunbar and a custom mounting bracket.

    15. I had to also make a notch in the stock exhaust manifold and bend it outward to fit my pipe over the wider swingarm.

Now that it's done and put together, everything works great. I am happy to say that I do not have any problems at all with this mod. Now after 2 months I am seeing some chain ware on the outer edge of the rear sprocket, this meaning that the alignment of the engine sprocket could be moved out a little to make everything work out better.

here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure of the finished product.

thanks, I hope you had fun reading along, let me know if you want to try this mod or you have already. I'd love to hear some more success stories.
