i have this helmet i use for gokarting, its DOT and has front and top of the head vents. its what iv been using for a while now, but on the high way over 65mph the helmit seems to want to lift off my head.  ofcourse the chin strap keeps it from pulling off, but is that because the helmit is to loose on my head?

ill post more about the helmit soone, i have it here at work with me.

i can fit a small over my head, but its real tite,  and my helmit says is a large.

can u interchange the padding in the helmits kinda like a bicycle helmit where u can get different thickness foam for a good fit? 

im lookin at arai helmets on ebay right now.

ya, if u r physically feeling the helmet lift off ure head... its atleast 2 sizes too big. u can change padding, but i doubt itll make up for a helmet that is as large as u say it is. more often than not, brands only sell replacement cheekpads, and this wont make it fit tighter around the top of ure head.

helmets break-in a little bit, so if a small feels very tight when brand new, itll prob be perfect after a month or 2 of wearing it. go to a reputable motorcycle shop and have someone fit u for a helmet. anyone experience w/ motorcycle gear should be able to tell u whether or not a helmet fits. also, expensive helmets tend to enlarge quite a bit less over time. i had a cheap KBC that stretched from painfully tight to extremely loose in under 6 months, yet my Arais feel only slightly larger than the day i bought em.

what i have now is a br15.  the visor does not lock, so when i turn my head on the highway the visor will pop open, and it fogs when i come to a stop. so i usually crack the visor open a fingers width.

the small arai helmet i have came with the bike when i bought it. its a small i gues, i cant find any size on it?  ? 

i can fit it over my head, but feels much titer then my br15 large helmet i use now.

 

my large br15 helmet feels like a boble head on my head when i head down the highway.  lol.   but im sure def not safe, and ill be correcting that soon. the visor is kinda crap too, well i bought this helmet at a gokart shop years ago, i never go faster then like 35 -40mph on the gokart, so the wind/floating helmet was never a problem.

 

so if i can fit the small helmet, whats a good way to test its still to tite on my head?

the arai small helmet i have now works well on my sisters head,

oh, i cant spell it, but its beffie or something, model BR15 size large.  thats what i have right now.

yeah...i definately wouldnt be riding around in that helmet. most places that sell helmets can give you a good fitting. kind of like ski boots....it should be snug, but not tight. i have an HJC and i had to by an XXL because of my ignorance. the XL was too "tight" around the crown of my head, so i went with an XXL. after 2 weeks, the padding started to set in and now its a bit loose. i called HJC and they said i could just change the padding. i dont know about your helmet, but its worth a try to contact the manufacturer.

but, if your screen flies up when you turn your head, get a new helmet. personally, i like the HJC 10. it has a built in sun shade for daytime riding. then it just slides right up and out of the way for when the sun goes down.

 i know in my first post i said the arai was a small, its actually a meduim, i found were the size tag was last night.  i mesured my head and it was 57cm's. i then looked online at the arai size charts, and according to there page im a medium.  so i used the arai helmet i have this morning to ride to work, much much better on the high way. also the visor does lock on it, so i was able to turn my head without the visor poping up.  but the helmet did hug my cheeks a little more, not uncomfortable, but kept the helmet from doing that bobble head effect over my head.  more snug then my larg bieffie br15 helmet i used before.

but now im a helmet short for passengers :(

time to find another used helmet.

theres a video on the aria website showing u how. essentially, u lift it up until to tabs pop upwards. then lift those tabs til they click and pull the visor up and off. most ppl fear the change because it sounds like the plastic is going to break, but its really not that hard. its actually easier to break a sidepod putting the visor back on.

Don't get cheap when it comes to your lid. Get a Shoei!
