Fulcrum:Higher octane number does not make it a more powerful gas, just more stable for higher complression engines.

But i do know that in Italy just after the switch to only unleaded there was a lead additive that you could add, a friend of mine would use it on his scooter..... but then again it was a 2-stroke and did not rev as high. I have heard that lead gave more power, but if it does, the higher octane (i think) is just a side effect, there might be a different property that gives that.
