    f3 carb problems

Ok here is my problem. Wed. I was riding to work at about 60 mph. and the bike started stumbling and cut off. I  switched over to reserve tank and nothing.  So I had to push it over two miles to work. Well to day I got to work on it and the pump is pumping, fuel lines are clean and it still wont start. I took the airbox out and sprayed a little gas into the carbs and as long as I do that it will run but as soon as I  stop it quits. Help this is my only mode of trans.

    Re: f3 fuel problems

Just off the top of my head you may have a tank vent blocked. This seems to happen mostly shortly after taking the tank off. Try opening the fuel cap and listening closely, if you hear a whoosh you vent is blocked. After 15-30 seconds of opening the cap if this is the case the bike should start. If not you should check the volume and flow of the pump. Obviously you wont be able to do this on the side of the road so you might try testing this after bringing the bike to full operational temp. (Be aware that the exhaust will be hot enough to ignite spilled fuel!!!) the manual says 700cc per minute (3 cups). Hope this helps.

I cant get it to run long enough to get it warm. If I spray some gas into the carbs. and it will run. so Im stumped.

    Re: f3 carb problems

hope this will help, i have somewhat desame problem but only on startup never while riding. check your fuel in carb(bowl, float could be getting stuck. If carbs are ok. then have you vaccum test on carb. if vaccum on carb is low then have your valves checked it might be too tight.

    Re: f3 fuel problems

ok . got it running but found a fuel leak. The vent tube on the inside of the tank has a small hole in it. so I drained the gas to where it is below the hole so it wont leak. Then I installed my K&N that came in today now the bike doesnt want to run over 3 thousand rpms. So I am off to put the stock dirty filter back in to see if that makes any difference. Is there any way to fix the hole in the vent tube or is my tank shot? Hopefully I can fix it because it is a smokin joes edition bike and I will prob not find another one used.

    Re: f3 fuel problems

so the bike starts all the time now consistently or what. except wont rev over 3k. gas level below hole is that why the bike starts now. start over and check fuel in carb, check vaccum of carb. if vaccum is ok check electrical if not ok have your carb checked if thats ok then its your valves are needing adjustment(intake valve)

    Re: f3 fuel problems

yea it will start all the time now and it isnt leaking because I have the fuel below the pinhole. And it wont rev past 2700-3000 rpms.   help what do i check. this is my first bike and it has been great for the past 1200 miles until now

    Re: f3 fuel problems

try running the bike on reserve and rev it. if is revs then it just too low on fuel if it doesn't then its more too it. Im not that mechanically inclined just know some basics.

    Re: f3 fuel problems

Ill try that today. I am also going to drain the tank and make sure the petcock screen is clean. I also might bypass the pump again to go gravity fed and see if that makes a difference.
