F4i fuel pump on carbed bike (99)

I got myself a nice shiny almost new F4i tank, and to my surprise it also had nice almost new looking fuel pump. Now i want to ditch old F4 pump that is almost ready to finally die (already repaired 2 times). I tried a test run of F4i pump and there is one certain difference - F4 pump builds the pressure and then turns off, and f4i pump works constantly but the pressure is maintained by pressure regulator.
I am aware that the F4i (fi bikes in general) is designed to operate under much higher fuel pressure than F4. What cold happen if i use F4i fuel pump and regulator on F4. I don't wont my carbs to blow up and then fuel pump pissing the fuel on the burning bike until it turns to ash :)
Would te adjustable fuel pressure regulator solve the problem? What pressure should it be adjusted to run on carbed bike? Anyone know what pressure are F4 and F4i pumps?
    Thanks

the diff in pressure between the two systems is dramamtic... the F4 prob runs under 10psi and the F4i over 100psi. the F4 may have a pressure regulator to limit to pressure down to that manageable level, or it may just pump out under 10psi all the time.. either way, dumping 100psi into a set of carbs would overcome the floats and ud just piss fuel into the cylinders constantly. a needle/seat arrangement wont seal and shut off the fuel with 100psi pushing on it. i cant see a fuel pressure regulator to solve this problem being cheaper than just getting a working F4 fuel pump.

is that b/c the f4 is carbed and the f4i is fuel injected?
    just wonderin
