    EBC pads.....chatter from the dimples?

Simple question. I just changed out the factory pads for a set of EBC pads.....I realy like them, better feel and more stopping force......But the rotor dimples chatter on the pads at highway speeds. kinda like a base ball card in the spoke of a bicycle wheel. Not overly loud but very noticable. Considering that the stock pads were near silent, is this normal for the EBC pads???

    dimples?? chatter?? wah??

ya, EBC pads are very loud compared to stock, but they shouldnt be making any sort of mechanical noise from hitting something... more of just a very loud "whooshing." u did scrub your rotors clean before install, correct?

Sorry, I havent been on for a couple of days. My PC got a nasty STD, and I just got it straightned out.  The drilled holes in the rotors make a kind of steady "ZZZZZZZZ" like noise as the apply the breaks.

I used brake clean then scotch brited each side lightly by hand the brake clean again then let em air dry and mounted the new pads. I know you are suposed to "scuff" the surface slightly to break up any glazing. but scrub them?  you mean soap and water?????

Re: EBC pads.....chatter from the dimples?

soap and water works, but so does scotchbrite and brake clean. scrubbing/scuffing/etc is more to remove old pad material, not just glazing. when changing pad brands, one brand may not be compatible with another. ive found that EBC pads completely hate the material laid down by OE Honda pads. so its always best to get rid of as much of the old brand as possible. the best possible way is bead blasting as it removes ALL old pad material. but scotchbrite, steel wool, or anything abrasive enough to remove brake pad material will work. IIRC, sintered pads work by first laying down a layer of pad material and then grabbing onto that when you are trying to stop. thats y its soo important to break in a set of pads correctly on clean rotors to get the maximum out of your brakes.

last time i scrubbed a set of rotors, i worked for about 10min per side per rotor w/ steel wool and brake clean, then washed em w/ soap and water and let em air dry. that, combined with taking a toothbrush and SimpleGreen to my calipers made for a great trackday.
