    CCT issue

    Hi all

    Hope you can help.

I had to take my CCT off for one reason or another and since I put it back on my chain is rattling. I have looked into the CCT issues and found that you can just "screw" it to tighten or loosen it until you get the desired tension and minimum noise. The trouble is that there is a spring inside the CCT which just springs it back to the tension it is set at.

How do you get around this please?

My bike is an F3 1995.

    Cheers

    Re: CCT issue

It should be self-adjusting, If it is indeed the problem then you will have to either replace it with another self-adjusting tensioner (witch would be easier, and less likley to do the wrong way) or a manual tensioner ( witch is popular, but proper adjustment is critical leaving room to possibley do as much harm as good).

I'm not tring to push you in any one direction here, Just want you to be able to make as informed of a choice as possible.  I believe that  uncle jeff has responder to several post concerning the manual tensioner as well as others. So, do a couple more searches and read up. it may offer some more insight to witch way to go. good luck!!

    Re: CCT issue

Screwing the auto CCT wont adjust it - you only do this prior to reinstalling it to "reset" it so to speak - it is spring loaded with a ratchet so it goes back to the ideal tension afterwards.

They are poorly made/designed though so they fail readily

Manual ones are often more risk/effort than they are worth - great if you often have the tank off but for most people just a PITA - I always replace them with new OEM as these seem to last better than the originals
