    Any ideas?

Here's the background and any help would be appreciated:

    I have a 2001 Honda CBR600F4i.

I had a problem with my bike when I was getting ready to put it into winter storage. Well now that spring is approaching, I got my roommate to take a ride with me and his truck to pick up my bike and bring it to school so I can get it all ready for spring.

Anyway... on to the problem. It started and ran fine immediately before I put it in the garage. The following is a list of things that I did to it preparing it for winter and I had plans to do some mods that I never got around to since I wasn't home as much as I thought I would be.

Here it what I did (not necessarily in the order listed):
    - Took off side, lower, and tail fairings
    - Took off seats
    - Removed chain guards
    - Unplugged radiator fan
    - Unplugged and removed each spark plug and coil
    - Disconnected battery
    - Disconnected ECU

Before I went back to school I decided that it would be better to have it mostly together in case I didn't get back home soon, so I put everything back together excluding the fairings, seats, and chain guards. Just to make sure, I turned the key on and tried starting it.... and, of course, it didn't. It ran for maybe 5 seconds or so (and seemed fine) and then just shut off. It hasn't started since.

Here is what I know about it so far:
    - Engine turns over fine, but doesn't fire
    - Checked each spark plug for spark
    - Checked each coil and each wire connection
    - Can hear fuel pump turn on
    - FI light comes on normally without any blinking
    - Tried spraying a little ether into the throttle bodies and it still didn't fire
    - Spark plugs came out slightly wet with gas/ether after trying to start it

I have already ordered new spark plugs, because I have no idea how many miles are on them and I put around 4,000 miles on them last summer since I bought the bike. Other than that I have nothing to go on. I couldn't begin to guess what the problem could be.

    Re: Any ideas?

fuel system is clogged/gummed/f*d from improper storage. drain the tank and put in fresh fuel, maybe add some fuel system cleaner (everyone likes SeaFoam), and attempt to run it again. new plugs will help, but u prob want to turn the bike over a bunch of times w/ the plugs out of the bike to help to clear out the flooding in the cylinders.

I don't understand why you did any of the above...
The most important procedure for storage is
    1.  Draining all of the gas and possibly replacing it with a stabilizer
    2.  Removing the battery and putting it on a tender once in a while
    3.  Raising the bike off the floor to prevent tire deformation
    4.  Draining coolant

But yeah, i completely agree with stang, first culprit would be the old gummed up fuel.

    Re: Any ideas?

stale fuel oxidises and stratifies, when you started it you probably pulled all the gummy junk from the bottom of the tank into you injectors/carbs, not to mention the old fuel in the fuel system will have varnished and gelled by now.

Strip it off clean it out and try again

Get a trickle charger for next year too
