    Re: Braking with 2 fingers

Using four fingers for braking on a sportbike is like using both feet on the break pedal in a car.  Just why would you do that?  Sure, during normal riding I can use four fingers as well without any unwanted endos ,but in an emergency, and I mean something that happens while you blinked your eyes, unless you are super-trained and eat bags of ginseng every day to remain calm I bet you will lock your front wheel.
Slicing fingers off?  Thats BS, if the bike landed on the brake lever hard enough to cut his fingers off underneath it that means they would be chopped off anyways even if they were held over the lever.
I had to panick stop on a freeway and it was very unpeasant experience, like when you want to pull over and smoke a cigarette.  Good thing I was using 2 fingers.  There was no time to think or control my break have I used my whole palm.

I am definitely not a pro...haven't even been to a track yet (but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night....actually I spent the night in a frickin wooden shack in Afghanistan that was 36 degrees inside...5 outside, d@mn it's cold here.)

Alright back on track.  I have experimented with different things.  I have used the two finger method on the clutch and brake but after a while of riding my clutch fingers get tired so I switch back to four.  It is more comfortable to use all four on the brake although I try at times to use the two on the brake or cover the front brake in moderate to heavy traffic.  It just depends what traffic is like and if my hands are tired from riding.  But I do agree that covering the front brake with two fingers cuts the reaction time by ~.0249secs and at times is the difference of avoiding a hazard or colliding with one.

    Re: Braking with 2 fingers

I am inexperienced but from my times on bikes after passing my test I have found that if I use four fingers on the brake then I pull it too hard so I use two now and I can use the other two to blip the throttle, two to four on the clutch depending on how I feel but I like to try and use two.

Not that you would be taught this in lessons?

    Cheers

    Paul
