    MD Motorcycle License?

If anyone can help me out, im looking into getting a bike. My question is, do you need a car license (Class C) in order to obtain a motorcycle license (Class M) in the state of maryland? You can email me REDLINEDHATCH@HOTMAIL.COM  or if you have AIM my sn is JDMSURPRISE. Help is appreciated thanks.

no...however i would suggest taking the MSF Safety Course so you don't kill yourself.  Also that would allow you to avoid taking your motorcycle test at the MVA, instead you take your certificate showing that you passed the class to the MVA and they hand you your licence.  feel free to email me if theres anything else you need.  b w g i x x e r -at- y a h o o -d o t- c o m

Yeah sleeper is right. Easyest way to obtain your M endorcement is via the MSF class, it's what i ended up doing. Also from what i've heard if you decide to bipass the MSF class susposedly the driving test is biased twards cruser type bikes... MSF is defently THE best and in my opinion the ONLY option.

+1 on the MSF course.  No other way to learn, IMO.  Learn the right way first.  :)

    Re: MD Motorcycle License?

You need to register through the MVA.  All the info on how and where and how much is on their website - http://www.marylandmva.com/MVAProg/moto/default.htm

I hear the classes still fill up ultra fast, so it can be hard to get the closest place to you.  I live near Annapolis and took the class in western MD because we could get in two months sooner.  But my in-laws live up there, so it wasn't so bad.  :)  Give them a call and see what kind of openings there may be.  You can also sometimes get in on standby - You go the day of the first class, and try to get lucky with their lottery that gives away the no-show spots.

No need to bring your own bike - They provide them for the course.  Usually little 250 Nighthawks or something.  You'll do fine with dirtbike experience.  I never even sat on a motorcycle before and I left that weekend with my license.

    Good luck!

    Re: MD Motorcycle License?

Yeah hockey is spot on, when i did it umpteen million years ago it was so busy that when i signed up it was spring time, and i didn't get into the course until the end of the riding season. Never sat on a bike beforehand and aced the course. When i did get my bike i never had a problem on the road other than idiot drivers. If it wasn't for that course i would have probably eatten tarmac to many times to count!
It's defently worth waiting for if theres no openings anytime soon. Plus most insurance companys give discounts to MSF graduates.

That's why I took the MSF course. :P

Then again, the MSF instructors are probably more lenient about stuff than DMV road test people too.

You will still have to pass the computerized knowledge test but that's really easy.  I got my driver's license re-instated and then got the M endorsement on it at the same time.

    Re: MD Motorcycle License?

To answer the original question:  No you don't need a regular (class c) liscence to get a motorcycle license but if you're is suspended your fucked.  You can't have a invalid liscence and get one.
