Re: 2007 CBR 600 RR is coming !!! (first spy pics ?)
You can't see any difference because on the outside it will appear as a 2006, but it's most likely the new engine they are testing out. Mario, I hope you remember what I said about this new bike many months ago!
Oh yeah, and expect new bodywork for the 07.

Re: 2007 CBR 600 RR is coming !!! (first spy pics ?)
Duc is right. Manufacturers "dress" new bikes components (engine, frame, suspension, etc...) to look like old models, so that if someone sees it, they don't give it a second look. Make sure you notice the telemetry sensors in the front suspension .
Also, remember that the CBR 600 RR was developed together with its HRC race kit. So, not only is the bike being developed, but also the racing parts that will be available as the official HRC kit. That was one of the most important factors for its good performance in WSS, the "race" parts of the bike was developed right from the start of the development of the "street" parts of the bike.
And Duc, I didn't forget what you said, and have been anxiously awaiting additional info on the bike, since it seems it will surely be a great track/race bike (like the new R6). Will we be able to persuade you into racing a Honda then ? ![Smile [:)]](/emoticons/emotion-1.gif)

If someone buys me a 2007 CBR and sponsors me, I'll be more than happy to race one.

How does this trottle by wire work? I know in principle its an electonc sensor in the grip that sends a signal to a servo to open the throttle valves. Can the rate of twist be adjusted? Making it a 1/4 or 1/5 short twist throttle for track days and normal for street riding. This would make down shifting at high revs so much easier on ....

Re: 2007 CBR 600 RR is coming !!! (first spy pics ?)
No you have it wrong. The throttle remains the same with the two cables still being utilized via the grip. These cables than go to an ECU. The ECU (which is actually 3 times more powerful than the bikes main ECU) reads the input via the cables and then transmits the data to the throttle bodies and tells them how much to open and close. On the Yamaha, the ECU will only allow the throttle bodies to open 60% at certain rpm's. This prevents wheelies and is the first step to 'traction control'.
How does this effect a 1/5 turn throttle? I don't know. The R6 already comes stock with a 1/4 turn throttle and I find this more than adequate.
The new Honda will utilize a similar setup. ![Wink [;)]](/emoticons/emotion-5.gif)

Re: 2007 CBR 600 RR is coming !!! (first spy pics ?)
Any word on whether the 2007 will have the same underseat exhaust?
That prototype obviously has it but does that imply the production model will also?
I'd like to see Honda do something more like Suzuki/Yamaha.... or just go back to the "old fashioned" can on the side...

My guess would be for the "feel". You still want it to feel like a motorcycle, not a video game. It may be more difficult to package the electronics and return springs in the throttle housing rather than in a box under the tank.

Re: 2007 CBR 600 RR is coming !!! (first spy pics ?)
From what I read about the R6 ride-by-wire throttle, the return of the accelerator is still mechanical, which means that if you cut gas, it WILL cut gas, to avoid any malfunction in the system sticking the throttle at 100% . So, you get the "feel" of the cable accelerator, the added safety of the return cable cutting gas no matter what the CPU says, and the added performance/safety of a CPU that considers several variables when you open full gas in 1st while leaned scraping your elbow...
We are seeing great commitment from manufacturers to produce sportbikes that are becomeing tremendous effective track machines, and now, more than ever before, a sportbike rider that doesn't take his bike to a track a few times is missing big time on all thepotential and fun his bike can provide him.
Now, any chance of us bribing Duc to get more info from what he already knows ? ![Big Smile [:D]](/emoticons/emotion-2.gif)

Re: 2007 CBR 600 RR is coming !!! (first spy pics ?)
^^^ The next time I see Jeff Tigert (Honda tester and AMA roadracer) I will ask him to give me some more feedback. He may not know any more info, but I'll ask him.
As for the fly-by-wire throttle, you want the cables there for the 'feel'. Nothing more. I don't want an electronically controlled throttle on my clip-on! When you crash, you are talking about hundreds of dollars in damage vice $20 for a new throttle housing and grip. You see I crashed two weekends ago and I messed up my right clip-on and throttle. If there had been an electronics package for my throttle on there, not only would I not have been able to ride the bike after the crash, but it would have cost me a lot to fix it.

Re: 2007 CBR 600 RR is coming !!! (first spy pics ?)
I hope they keep the undertail exhaust. Someone I know has had his 06' graves all scratched up on the tips on his r6.... ![Whisper [:-*]](/emoticons/emotion-17.gif) . For a track bike the undertail exahust just seems better. I wonder if the F4i line will still be here in 2007. Anyone have any thing from the article in the MCN mag?

undertail exhaust also equals more weight.

Re: 2007 CBR 600 RR is coming !!! (first spy pics ?)
I like the undertail exhaust looks better, and it is more aerodinamical and gives you more ground clearance than the normal side mount. But the new Yamaha/Suzuki have tried to come up with a better solution. Not only it seems it may weight less, but the important thing is that the exhaust weigth is very low, allowing for better mass centralization near the center of gravity, making the bike much more easier to ride fast, more balanced. And it tries to be so short that ground clearance shouldn't be an issue (although it does seem this point wasn't perfectly achieved).
Just as a way to explain the difference in mass centralization, imagine having two gallons of water strapped to the rear seat of your bike and then riding it. Then imagine putting the same two gallons under the seat. The bike would weight the same, right ? But what do you think would feel better to ride ? .
