Re: Riding roads in San Diego
Yeah, I was thinking along the same lines. Is there a way to see a list/history of motorycle accidents for SD county?

Re: Riding roads in San Diego
i did the 78/79 highways past Julian and it was amazing.. however, ive now heard that it pretty much snowed on every mountain above 2500ft around here so im staying away. nothing worse than hitting some ice when coming around a corner....

Re: Riding roads in San Diego
If you just got off 5 and took the Via de la Valle exit away from the ocean then just stay straight (on Via de la Valle). It will take you into the hills. Dont make any turns on Camino Real.

Re: Riding roads in San Diego
Damn dude, I replied on that thread.
But since we are here on 'San Diego roads' thread.... I went to Julian last weekend. I took 78 there and it was allright, I only realized how cold I was when I got to Julian, went to the bathroom and couldn't "shake off" my member, hehe. Anyways I'm sitting sipping coffee when this black rider comes in with all his gear in his hands, I went and talked to him. Turns out a girl in front of him went down, her bike tripped his and he went down too. His bike slid and hit her on the ground. She got messed up but alive, his bike was pretty f'ed up too and needed towing. So I'm thinking wehter I should go back the same way, take 79, or take Sunrise like I wanted. All of a sudden dark clouds roll in and this dense fog starts spilling over the hills, I say fak it and decide to take the Sunirse anyways. 10 minutes into the ride I relized that it must have been a pretty stupid decision, and what real cold means. The fog was so dense that you could only see 15-20 feet in front. The wind was extremely strong and gusty, I was going 30-35 mph and kept getting blown into oncoming lane. My hands were feezing! My visor kept getting all frosty outside from the fog AND blurry inside from the extreme cold and breath. So I had to keep it open. Then it started to snow. IT kept pocking my eyes out reducing my vision even further. The next 30 minutes were pretty unnerving and agonizing in this storm but when I finally got to the summit things cleared up. First thing I got off my bike and clamped my hands onto the exhaust pipe. Ohh, that felt good in summer gloves! This mexican family pulled up and after looking at me the wife (what looked liked wiped a tear of her face) and gave me hot coffee. They later lit my sig too, when they saw that my hands couldnt handle matches. The other side of the mountain was much better - no wind at all. But as I rode down the road all the people who were sitting in their SUVs or sledding down show hills looked at me like I was an idiot. Never the less it was an awesome ride after 6 month of license suspension. By the way it was the first time I took out my Joe Rocket Ballistic 5.0 panths and Alpinestars SM-X boots. They were awesome! I had cargo pants underneath and my legs were not cold at all in the blizzard.

Re: Riding roads in San Diego
Hey guys,
I live in the SDSU area and got for rides like every weekend.
A road we frequent is Otay Lakes Rd, turn left at stop sign, right onto
Honey Springs rd, then another right which brings you to the 8.
GORGEOUS Ride and LOTS of twisties, then a longish freeway ride home
btw, I ride an 02 F4i with 2 speeding tickets (1 car, 1 bike) under my belt so I do twisties now instead of speed.

Re: Riding roads in San Diego
wasssup guys.. it's been a while since I replied on this thread.. anyway, I've been to most of the twisties around SD.. sunrise, telegraph, banner, julian, borrego... palomar. I can say they are all great rides.. that only thing I don't like about it is that the ride to get there!!!.. does anyone feel the way I feel? Anyway, my favorite place to go is Palomar Mtn. It has constant twist, which means vehicle other than bikes can't go past 30mph... not like the other twisties around SD.. alot of blind turns and fast cars!! Anyway, sad to say that I will soon be deployed for a very long time that's why I'm out there every weekend starting Friday.. so if you see me in Palomar.. don't hesitate to say wassup!!.. See you guys out there. Also check out my website: www.flipmoderiders.com

Re: Riding roads in San Diego
Hey, man. There's another pretty cool road left, check out the road to tecate. Go on telegraph, and then when you come to a T intersection with a stop sign at the end of it - make a right to go to 94. Its pretty nice with good pavement, medium twisties, and low traffic. It will eventually take you to 8, one exit east of sunrise! Yeah, I hate the fact that you have to ride for 1 -1.5 hours just to get to fun roads here, and its freaking hot too. If you like riding then live in bay area. Awesome roads within a max of 15 minutes of anywhere. Very long time? Did they make it 15 months now? Army?
