Yep. There has been a lot of chatter for the last month on this bike. I like the fact that the 1098 went back to the 916 styling. That style is what made Ducati.... well, Ducati! This bike also has all the wiring for GPS data aquisition and traction control ready to go. The instrument cluster is the same one developed for the Desmosedici! Makes around 160hp and tons of torque. This is the best Ducati to date. But for $30,000 I would expect that!

    Re: ducati 1098

Ok well just to be sure (because the price does seem crazy) I checked ducati's website and the MSRP for the 1098 is $14,995, the 1098s will cost 19,995 and the 1098s tricolore $24,995

    Re: ducati 1098

i haven't seen a "R" version yet, but I would be surprised if it doesn't come out next year. gone I guess is the 749 series. at least update the 749 with teh 1098 look.

the front feels like the 2003/2004 kawi 600 for me tho. not bad since i'm one of the few among friends that actually like the "frog" look of the 03/04 kwak 600.

i've heard similar pricings here (msrp starting 14k).

    Re: ducati 1098

saw it at the moto show in bay area. looks much better in person. and the 's' version looks sweet. even had a remote adjuster for brake (not sure if this is stock since the display version also had termi's on it).

    Re: ducati 1098

Yes, there is a remote adjuster for the Brembo brakes. It actually comes in a kit if you buy a full Brembo package for any bike. But for the price you pay, it should!

    Re: ducati 1098

Yup. Base model is 14K, S model with Ohlins and Termi pipes, better brakes is 19k, special Tri-color bike adds, uh, paint for 24k.

Very nice bikes, they'll definately be in contention for bike of the year in the mags, as long as Ducati can keep up with production, and quality is good.

The best part is that they extended the valve service interval, they doubled it!! Only thing left to not like, is the seating position, IMO, but it is a sportbike after all.

    Re: ducati 1098

Une color "S" model, which is lighter in weight with upgraded parts goes for 19k. I don't see why the Tri-Color is going for $5k more, unless they are adding Ohlins internals and Ohlins shock to the Tri-Color? I can't find anything to support this theory however, so my guess is, the Tri-Color model will not sell to well!

There will be no "R" race model this year sinse the 1098 isn't legal in any racing organization. Gonna have to wait til 2008.

    Re: ducati 1098

1098R is out... though supposedly, it's more like a 1198 (closer to 1200cc). i wonder if 848's and 1098's are not selling as well. some dealerships locally are trying to entice buyers by offering a 4 year extended warranty (free) on the bikes. hmmm....

and most used sellers are listing their bikes at almost msrp prices hovering around 1k or 2k miles. only doc fee is being saved at that point, which is kinda silly for the sellers.

but offering free warranty is making me drool now.

    Re: ducati 1098

Don't know if anyone found the difference (in performance) between the "s" and the "Tricolore". Apparently they are making a limited amount of the "Tricolore" I think it was 1500. That might not be a reason to up the price $5k, but they can get more for it I guess!

    Re: ducati 1098

what i recall in addition to the paint job, it comes with termi exhaust already whereas the 1098s doesn't. i saw someone try to sell their 1098s with termis and other mods like evo clutch cover for almost the same price of a new 1098s tricolore.

here's a short example of the tricolore

everyday, i think of a duc 848 or a 1098s. 848 only because it'll be easier for me to pay off if not cash (depending on tax results soon), vs. a 1098s which might take a little time but it comes with ohlins and a dry clutch. not to mention, it'll conflict a bit with race expenses and a motogp trackday.

but i drool everyday. i bet i'll do a "in the heat of a moment" purchase if i'm not careful  lmao i've been known to do so. that's why i found about the 4 yr warranty.

    Re: ducati 1098

after further analysis, the 848 might actually not be worth it. why? if you want to "ohlin'nize" your 848, it'll cost you another 3-4 grand (ohlins fork internals only and ohlins shock, not R&T ohlins forks). so that brings up your price so possibly 17995. for another 2 or so grand, you get ohlins forks and shock already, plus another 250cc, though you don't get a clutch slipper like the 848.

    hmmm....
