abad, share the info on your tail light integration

    hey abad,

I think you're the one that integrated the rear blinkers into the corners of your tail light. Mind posting a pic?

I want to do the same thing to my F3...can you give me a walkthrough of how you did it?

Re: abad, share the info on your tail light integration

LOL.....I'm laughing because this is the most ghetto-rigged thing I've ever done :)

I don't have any pics of the process but I'll do my best to describe what I've done.

Parts needed (this is what I've used, you can probably substitute as you see fit):
    - Clear Alternatives tail light lens
    - LP dual-filament signal lamps
    - LP dual-filament signal lamp bulbs (yellow)
    - 1 coat hanger

    Tools needed:
    - needle nose pliers

The reason I used LP dual-filament signal lamps is because only the dual-filament bulbs come in yellow. All of their single-filament lamps are white (the last time I checked). If you aren't concerned about having yellow turn signals, then just use any single-filament light fixture. In either case, you're only going to use the receptacles and you won't use the lens.

The key thing here is mounting the turn signal light receptacles. I fabricated mounts for the receptacles out of a coat hanger. These "mounts" (LOL) were made in such a way that they'll wrap around the receptacles to hold the lamp and mount to the mounting screw of the tail light lens. It basicall has a shape like this:

    o__O

Once you've done this, everything else just falls into place. But if you use dual-filament lights, make sure you secure the unused lead for the running light so that it doesn't inadvertently turn on the light or short anything else.

I'll try to get a pic to better explain.

ok...i get what you're saying...where did you get the clear lens?

what about your fender? did you just trim down the stock one, or did you fabricate that too? I actually think that little wedge (to which you've mounted the plate) looks better than a clean undertail....

The clear lens is made by Clear Alternatives. But I bought it from a reseller on Ebay for half the price.

I just cut the stock fender. I'm too cheap to buy a real kit. That little wedge you speak of is part of the original fender.

Re: abad, share the info on your tail light integration

In  my case I mounted a single intensity led cluster from customdynamics into each corner of the stock tail light. For mounting them in the rear I used a nice glob of ShoeGoo. It is rubbery and will absorb shock/vibration well as well as allowing me to replace the clusters without trashing the lens if needed.  I also did the same with dual intensity led clusters in the LP flush mounts on the front. All work quite nicely. I did not use the load balancer so my flash rate is higher, but I actually like that as I think it attracts more attention. Hope that is some help.
