banana [:banana] So I thought it was time for a new look... sooo NEW PICS!!

Spent the day saturday doing something I've been wanting to do for a loooong ass time and finally got around to (or finally bought all the parts, rather, lol).  I'll let the pics tell the story

So as much as I liked how comfy my stock seat setup was, I was just getting tired of the fugly banana look

Just my luck, somebody on cbrforum.com was selling nearly everything I needed to do the swap!  He has an '06 F4i and was gonna do it, but started messing around making his own custom seat cowl and did that instead, and sold the parts to me!

Since my bike ain't silver, first in order was to get the tail painted.  My buddy Jonny did an absolutely OUTSTANDING job on the paint!

I totally suprised myself... I put the decals on and actually got them [for the most part]... straight!  Also with no bubbles or ripples!  The Honda decal in the back is ever so slightly crooked though, so gotta redo that one it's gonna drive me nuts

Next on the list, the yellow pillion seat.  The upholstery shop my work uses was supposed to pick it up from my work on thursday, but they forgot while they were there, so it never happened.  Sooo I did this just for temporary use for the weekend.  They picked it up this morning to be re-covered in black.  I used a black fabric paint/dye stuff, actually worked pretty good!

    Got that done

Next thing... 01-03 F4i's had a black frame and subframe, while mine ('04+) had a silver frame.  Of course I want it to match, so I take the aircraft stripper to the front (visible) half of the new subframe to make it silver.  It's stubborn though, there's still some spots that the paint just would not come off period... gonna have to take the dremel to it

Time to start ripping the bike apart

    Ready to start the install

The wiring harness was a PITA to get routed properly

    Finally got it though

And after getting the LED integrator light properly wired, and double checking everything to make sure everything was tight..... VIOLA!

This was cool too... the dinky wires on my lighted license plate light bolts were too short, and I got frusterated trying to get them wired and said '*** it!!'.  I didn't even realize that this beastly new integrator light also has built in 3 white LED's that shine down right onto the plate...SWEEEET!!  So now I don't even need to worry about that

The daytime pictures came out MUCH better! You can really see how well the paint came out

As you can probably tell I'm quite happy with the results! IMHO I think it looks WAAAAAAY better than with the banana.  Found out today on our lil 270 something mile ride through Snake Rd, then all the way around Lake Ockeechobee (it's a big lake!!), that it's most definitely NOT as comfy as the old seat, but that's alright a Corbin can fix that.  I like this one too cuz I can slide around on it, the old one it was very hard to.  Anyways, I'm happy with it... no regrets!  Big Smile woot

That was an excellent job!  Your buddy did a great paint job on the tail section.  Your bike looks great.  Good pictures as well.

That aircraft stripper stuff does a pretty good job of taking the paint off.  I stripped a car using that stuff, wan't too easy, I will never do that again, too big of a project.

Wow... that looks amazing.  Great job!

I had a 2003 954 red/black and I ended up changing the tail and front fender to black as well. The end result was the same color scheme as your F4i.  In fact, here is a pic.... http://www.bikepics.com/pictures/068735/  (I wont post the pic as I dont want to detract from your great work)

I owned an F4i, and have looked at countless ones online, but I must say that I think your is the best looking color scheme ever on an F4i!  Well done!

Quite a simple process for me! hahah (1) place new tail section and other misc parts in backseat of car (2) drive over to my buddys house (3) tell him "here's my new tail stuff, paint it up nice, take as long as you need just do it right" (4) wait 4 days, get back into car and drive to buddys house again, gawk in amazment at just how friggin sweet it came out, slip him some bills, then place in backseat of car again and drive home (5) install and smile ear to ear Big Smile

LOL sorry I couldn't resist!  Honestly though I don't know jack about painting, so I really don't know all that he did.  I know since it had a few rash spots he had to use some filler to even it out and sand it all nice and smooth, that's about all I know.  The rest is his magic skillz!  The dude is friggin amazing, you should see what he did on his '03 RC-51... absolutely beautiful!! (can't find the pics though).  But anyways, thanks alot for all the compliments!! I appreciate all the positive input... seems it was time and $$ well spent.  Oh and no worries about the rear seat, the upholstery shop picked it up from my work yesterday and brought it back today, and they too did a sweet job on the recover.  They even re-did the little strap too!  Seat looks brand new, and to top it all off... they only charge me $10 bones!!! Surprise First thing out of my mouth when they said how much, and I paused for a second and said "that's it?!?" DAMN that's cheap!  So mad props to Central Auto Trim too!

So I'm happy... love the new look, and it was time for a change anyways.  I haven't done anything new to the bike in FOREVER! Now I can do a few other small things that I've been wanting to get done too after getting this done, like frame sliders (finally!), some flushmounts, new highmount pipe.  Then a suit and a few other stuff, and TRACKDAYS!!!  I've been holding off on doing a trackday since the old seat it was sooo hard to slide around on, wanted to wait until I got this one.  Then the frame sliders of course, and a highmount so it don't scrape (a buddy of mine lowsided on the track because of the pipe scraping), so pretty soon I'll be all set and ready to hit Jennings GP! I can't wait!! Big Smile

Thanks again for all the kind words!
