We haven't done a casual ride in a while so this would be a good chance to get to know some of the other riders here. I wouldn't classify this trip as a beginner run since both Palomar Mountain and Montezuma Grade are better suited for an intermediate rider. Given the recent rain and cold weather, I think keeping the run casual would be smart. Hopefully it will be a little cool, we all know how the bikes respond cooler dense air. This trip would be around 200 miles round trip from San Marcos .
Assuming the weather cooperates:
A few of us typically meet in San Marcos at the Starbucks on the south west corner of Rancho Santa Fe Road and San Marcos Blvd (aka Palomar Airport Rd) between 9-9:30am. From there we tend to pick up stragglers in Escondido where we gas up, usually the 76 station on Mission and Escondido Blvd. The route takes us past Lake Worlford and up to Mothers Kitchen on Palomar Mountain for breakfast. Sunday mornings are usually a good time to go up tight side so as to avoid nut cases. From there we go down the back side of Palomar to Lake Henshaw and finally out and down Montezuma Grade. Thats about 100 miles of very mixed riding conditions. Once we gas up, we can either circle back around through Julian and tour some of the fire damage through Ramona or just reverse back out the way we came in. Post up if you are interested or just show up. If you have a 2 way radio, we are on channel 8.
