    lowering kit

Looking for a good lowering kit for my 06 1000rr any suggestions?  Has anyone ever installed one before and is the rear suspension the only thing you have to mess with or does the front have to be lowered to keep the rake the same?

    Thanks for your help

    Re: lowering kit

lowering the rear usually involves changing the dogbone.  literally 2 linkage parts that look like dogbones.  u can buy them online pretty easily from most aftermarket parts websites, just search for lowering link or dogbone.  they are usually around 100-125$.  yet, like u were thinking, if u only change the rear of the bike.... itll handle like a tank.  the change in rake will drastically increase the trail, making it much harder to change directions.  most ppl counter this by lowering the front end (raising the forks) a similar distance.  the only other problem ull for sure have is springrate.  because the total travel is decreased, u will need stiffer springs on both front and rear suspension.  ppl do get away w/ just cranking in more preload though and not changing springs... but its not the ideal solution.

    Re: lowering kit

I had to do the same thing.  As my handle suggests, I'm only 5'6" & reach was a major problem for me.  I'd read all about how you absolutely had to lower the front so it wouldn't handle like a tank.  I got a two position lowering link for the rear.  I got mine in early 06, so nothing was labeled exactly for the 06, so I tried one for the 04 & 05s.  One hole is suppose to drop the rear by 1" and the other by 2".  In 06 Honda shortened the wheel base of the 1000RR slightly.  Now I know how/they changed the factory link. On the 06, the lowerlink for the 04/05 translated to a 5/8" drop on one hole and 1 & 5/8" on the other hole (we measured stock then again in each of the two lower link positions).  I was dead set on lowering the front to match, but was concerned about the fender hitting the nose cowl under compression so I rode it with just the 1 & 5/8" lowering on the rear only for a while.  I've never changed it since.  If that's how a tank handles, then that's a tank that would drastically out-corner my IROC-Z.  It handles just fine & it's capabilities far exceed mind...and I can reach the ground.  If you can reach the ground, leave it alone.  If you can't, get the lowering link for the 04-05 & install it, then leave the front alone & ride it for a while in a sane manner.  I've never had any clearance issues, but I refuse to ride the street like it was the track too.
Life...it's what happens while you're making other plans.

I'm actually about to do the same thing with my 2005 CBR 1000RR.  Although  I can reach the ground in my tip toes, I will feel more secure if I can put my hole feet on the ground. I just found a Lowering Dog Bone on ebay, and I'm going to install it this weekend. I wont touch the front suspension, unless I feel a big difference. Thanks for the advices...I'll let you know...
