    How to avoid hand discomfort

    Guys/Ladies,

How do you avoid discomfort in your hand all the way to shoulder as you ride? I am using this bike to go to office in jakarta, one of the most dense trafic roads in the world. The problem is perhaps the way i ride it (usually no gloves). Do you know what kind of grips (brand) that can avoid discomfort perhaps a very soft one? Do you all wear gloves? Must i wear gloves to avoid it? Or there is riding technique or trick to avoid it.

take the weight off your wrists by supporting your body with your stomach muscles.  relax your hands on the bars.  avoid white-knuckling the grips.  your elbows should be slightly bent and relaxed.

there are lots of aftermarket grips, but unless you learn proper technique to relieve stress from your hands/wrists/elbows/shoulders, you'll always have a problem.

gloves will help, as they will def add some support to your hands.  theyll dampen a lot of the vibration from the bars and just make u more comfortable overall.  gets some cool summer gloves at the very least.  as for the discomfort reaching your shoulders, SoCal is def correct... its more about the muscles u use to hold yourself on the motorcycle.  u should be able to find a comfortable position on the seat that allows u to apply very little to no pressure on the bars, w/ your lower body holding u on the bike.  if u seriously want different softer grips, any aftermarket brand should have how firm or soft the grips are labeled on the package.  so u could just buy the ones that say "extra soft", but it wont solve most of your problems

i cant ride without gloves i feel like i dont have a helmet on

gloves also will provide more grip than your hands do if they get dry or sweaty

would also suggest checking the angles on your levers (clutch/break). when sitting on your bike (in riding position) you want your wrists to be as straight as possible. with that said, even with a perfect riding position, on our sport bikes you're wrists will ultimately get soar. personally i find my threshold is around 2 hours.

The pain gets less as you become more used to the riding position of a sportsbike but gripping the tank with your knees helps, head up and then finding your own riding position.
