RSchaef83:haha, what parking place isn't generally accessible to trucks?
disc locks are worthless, they'll break the ignition with or without you having a disc lock. basically bike locks are stupid, the best thing you could get would be a security system so the bike makes loud noises and goes off flashing when somebody tampers with it. or just get nothing
Another alternative is to chain it down like you mentioned but again there's not a whole lot of parking places that offer something strong to chain it down too.
A real bike thief is gonna have a truck or van and whether you got a disc lock or not they're gonna laod it
plenty of parking lots around here, esp at my university which is where the bike is parked most often, that have motorcycle specific parking. most of which are fenced off by steel poles stuck in the ground, preventing anything bigger than a golfkart from making it through.
there r two types of thieves that steal motorcycles. type1 are the POS that punch your ignition or twist the bars w/ their legs to break the lock... and simply ride away on your bike. its fast, ez, and u prob wont get caught doing it. obviously, these f***ers will be thwarted by a disc lock even if they do punch your ignition. so theres no need to call something stupid because u dont think it does any good. type2 thieves are the ones that wont care if uve got a chain, cable, alarm, GPS, or disc lock.... by the time anyone notices, the bike will be hiding away somewhere w/ the wiring harness cut and half the parts already off it. if i can stop even half the type1 thieves from looking at my bike, maybe get them to go for the one w/out a disc lock parked right next to it... then im happy.
