If your going completely D.I.Y.S. I think denis kirk sells weld or bolt in baffle kits for quieting down "straight pipe" kits for cruisers. might be somthing you could mod. i think the cat. gives pictures and specs.

It's gonna be LOUD bro. Just take off your canister as a frame of reference. It'll be pretty similar. Remember, your motor needs some backpressure to work at its best. I dunno if that short of a pipe is going to be able to make enough. You're almost definitely going to need a Power Commander.

Re: ??shorty exhaust on a 929??

As long as there is some kinda can I dont think that will be much of a problem, since i still have the stock header and exhaust valve on the bike. They  pretty much are more restrictive than my jardine race can.

Re: ??shorty exhaust on a 929??

Yea.... Keep on thinkin that. Deafening others one victim at a time! Then again, i like aftermarket exhausts and blasting others with semi obscene sound.

If you tune the bike right, just think of how much power you'll get...

Re: ??shorty exhaust on a 929??

I was only refering to the power comander part. Even with the race can most of the local bikes are still louder than mine, so I dont realy care about that. and i dont race the bike, im happy with the power level now, so i dont see the need for a power comander

Yes, I believe the shorty will really mess up the fuel mixture at low rpm, power doesn't come on until 3000rpm, and its surgy up until about 3500rpm, but after that its great. Just did flapper mod which has made it smoother, but getting a power commander and custom map for it.

Re: ??shorty exhaust on a 929??

It looks good , and I may end up going that route since my jardine can is almost the same. About your possible fuel problems, again you still have the stock headers and exhaust valve in place, right? I could be wrong but, you shouldnt notice any real change, if youve ever seen the shape of the valve and how it works you'll  understand comletely. And the factory header is very limiting as well (compared to shape and size of after market) . do you still have the "cone" on the end of your mid pipe that sets in the can? If so, I would be fairly certain that the tone and sound are playing tricks on you, that performance is nearly the same. Though the power comander will smooth thing out a bit ( the 929 is considered to be a bit rough, as the power curve goes). the comander wont so much give you more power it will smoth the cure out and flatten it a bit.

What I was really intrested in was an exhaust system that was a little lower and shorter. maybe a can or something under the fairing in place of the valve maybe and exit under the peg . maybe even dual exit in the location of the  stock mid pipes before the 2 into 1collector. of course removing the valve would make the use of a power comander a must....
