    f4i shifting problems

Now that i am getting more comfortable with my bike and bringing the rpm's up higher before shifting to the next gear i have noticed that if i get my rpm's over 9000 in first gear and shifting into second gear it doesn't engage and just gets stuck in neutral. While it is stuck in neutral i hear the nastiest clunking noise like it is almost trying to find second gear and once my rpm's go back down it goes right into second gear. I would lust like to know what my problem could be.

    Re: f4i shifting problems

#1 problem in this case is always rider error.  the 1st-2nd shift is by far the worst one as u need to literally skip over neutral inside the gearbox.  if u dont pull up on the shift lever w/ the correct timing, enough force, and most importantly enough distance... ull miss it.  my best suggestion, other than working on smooth shifting, is to adjust your shift lever properly (move it down for starters).  get it to a good feeling position within the range of motion of your foot so u can mesh those gears.

sadly, if none of this works... it may be a mechanical issue.  currently doesnt sound like one, but if the bike starts to pop out of 2nd gear when on the throttle u may have a worn shift drum or a bent shift fork.  however, assume this is NOT the case as it is rare to actually have a mechanical problem, esp on a Honda.   maybe if u were riding an older gen R6... Re: f4i shifting problems

No couldn't be rider error. haha just kidding. ya ill just try giving it more force when shifting from 1st-2nd and if that doesn't help any maybe ill move the shift lever.  thanks for the quick reply. ya this is my first honda product i have all yamaha, 4 wheeler, snowmobile, and my old bike was a yamaha, but i liked the cbr's better than the r6.

    Re: f4i shifting problems

yeah yeah +1.  You really gotta shift with authority when you're going from first to second at a higher rpm.  I used to miss second quite alot just from lazy technique......you'll get the hang after some time.

    Re: f4i shifting problems

i think this was also a trend on the F4i. It was one of the first popular things I read about on F4/F4i when I got my ride. After a while, you won't even notice it.

    Re: f4i shifting problems

ya i agree with everyone i think it is rider error, because i have been using more force while lifting up on the shift lever and hasnt popped into neutral. i think it has to do with being lazy haha. thanks for everyones quick reply

    Re: f4i shifting problems

simply put...you just gotta shift with authority...not like a lazy shift etc...

i used to have this issue, then i shifted like i meant it...went away, but once in a awhile would creep up on me.

then i went gp style shift, never missed a shift again...in any gear...
