dunno [:dunno] I want my car back

Help! My boyfriend is really stupid! Last Sept. He wrecked his car. It was towed, he had some guy we didn’t even know fix the car because this guy's uncle owned a garage nearby so he gave him the key to the car but we never saw the car again. We foolishly trusted this guy even when we stayed in contact for a while to ask about the car he said he fixed but needed headlights to finish. He invited us over to see the car to arrange getting some money together to buy the expensive lights but when we tried to confirm meeting up he changed his number and apparently moved. Never hearing from him again. We didn’t even know this guy's last name. We were scared to tell anyone. My b/f told me he would take care of it but he just tried to forget the whole thing. He didn’t tell the dealership to which he still owed. He never made a police report. He still owes a bank for the money loaned to pay for the car, the dealership made a threat to put him in jail if he didn’t come up with something. We can’t find anything on this guy and we fear it might be too late. The tow company just gave the car away to this stranger without any permission from anyone is that legal? Is there anything we can do to find this car? Will my boyfriend be charged with anything because of this? What should we do? PLEASE HELP!

GET A LAWYER!!!  Do not pass GO, do not collect $200.

Seriously, don't f#ck around on the internet about this.  Get some real legal advice from a lawyer.  You're already knee-deep in muck.  A police officer can't help you at this time.

Re: I want my car back

You said in one part that your b/f gave the guy the keys to fix the car and in another part, the tow truck driver just gave the car to him.  Which one is it?

Not to sound like a ***, but if you told me this story in person, I would tell you that either your b/f is not telling you the whole story or he is lying.  The story doesn't make sense.  Why in the world would someone "lose" a car almost a year ago and not only keep paying for it like they are driving it, but not inform anyone that they suspect it stolen.  It just doesn't sound totally legit and you might want to pry some more out of your bf.

If this is really what happened, you are going to have an ordeal ahead of you, because the police, the dealership, and most importantly the insurance company are all going to have the same reaction, stuff like this doesnt happen.  You first will have to make a police report after you gather infomation on the car like the address it was stored at, who picked it up from the tow truck company, who cashed the checks that you wrote for the bodywork.

I would doubt your boyfriend will be arrested, unless of course he fucked up so bad, came up with this story, and is prepared to file a false police report to try to sort it all out.

Again, not trying to be a *** but get used to this reaction cause you are going to be seeing it a lot.  Good Luck and try to post more details cause as the story stands right now,  I think you b/f is full of crap.

Re: I want my car back

Yeah this story is absurd!  Why didn't your bf try to do something about this as soon as the guy didn't meet up with you all.  It's ridiculous, if anybody took my car i'd be on it first thing.  Why on earth would you be scared to tell anyone?  I'd tell ANYONE AND EVERYONE!  Sounds like your bf didn't wanna say the car was stolen because he did a shady deal somewhere along the lines and didn't want the dealership or police to find out.

It's called a civil matter. Hire a lawyer and file a suit against the mechanic. When he dosent appear in court a civil warrant will be issued.

Re: I want my car back

You should check the country property tax records (usually available online).  If he owned the home, you can EASILY get his first and last name.  With that you can get a PI for 100 bucks.  You can even use an online people finder and get his butt!
