It sounds like you haven't taken the MSF class. I strongly suggest you take the MSF class.  In fact, based on your post, I suggest you don't ride the street until you take the class.  Parking lot riding is okay for practice, but if you don't know what to practice then what's the point?  The MSF class will teach you the basic skills you need to ride a bike safely.

Dude, if you are asking for pointers on how to turn & shift then you DEFINITELY need to take that test first. Cycles can be very dangerous, regardless of whether or not you know how to ride. People don't see you, they drive too close, etc....

You also have a very fast bike, which is even more of a reason to first take that course. Welcome to the wonderful world of bikes, but get the proper instruction, experience, and gear before you hit the pavement. Just a word of advice because we care about your safety.

    God bless!

+1 to the previous posts, take the course, it will show you how to shift, turn, etc. Afterwards, take it to the parking lot, then to low-traffic backroads. Once you're comfortable with the bike and your skills take it elsewhere.

MSF is about $300 where I am but it pays itself off in insurance, knowledge and safety for you and everyone else.

Take the class. It cost $250 for me. The class took 2.5 days to complete. Learning how to ride in a parking lot isn't the way to learn. A parking lot is a controlled environment, unlike the streets where you have judge what everyone is doing and guess what they might do. I've had many close calls (i'm sure everyone on this site has a story about a close call) and I've only been riding on the streets for 2.5 years. I ride with my high beams on and people still don't see me, I've even got an aftermarket slip-on and they still don't hear me coming. Please don't think that I'm being hard on you about how you are learning, but the class can teach you more than you think. It's worth the money. Be safe out there and good luck.

When you take the class, the instructors will emphasis that people will not see and YOU have to make yourself visible. Don't rely on the other drivers to see, bc alot of times they won't.
