    Honda Turn Signal survey

I thought this was rather interesting.... I got an email from Honda to participate in a survey asking me:

    1. did I replace my stock turn signals
    2. my satisfaction with the aftermarket signals
    3. how much did I spend on aftermarket signals

It would be cool if Honda actually puts turn signals on the bike that people actually like so that they wouldn't have to spend money to swap the stock signals out.

    Re: Honda Turn Signal survey

aside from aesthetics, i don't know why people change their turn signals unless they plan on falling a lot and OEM is more expensive than aftermarket. greanted, the R1 signals back in 02-04 with the teardrop design as much better looking that the square'ish honda ones. some argue it doesn't matter since people don't see the turn signals anyway. but still and if that's that case, i don't know why people would switch them (with the idea of "non-functional" arguement).

my gixxer turn signals are probably just as ugly as the honda's (of the older models), but i kept them stock. i wish the factories didn't integrate the turn signlas with the side mirrors, since those just became a much more expensive part.

    Re: Honda Turn Signal survey

my biggest complaint about the front stock turn signals is that they're design allows them to take out the a chunk of the fairing if the bike ever drops.  So instead of replacing just a turn signal, you're also replacing/repairing a fairing.

If it wasn't for that, I'd keep the stock signals.

That is interesting what abad said about stock breaking the fairings, I did not really know that, however, I’m still going to put the stock back on mine and it is mainly for 1 reason.... safety!! I was told by my girlfriend that if she had not been looking sooooo attentively at me/my bike when I first rode it home, she would have easily not noticed that I was planning on turning (this is with a tail light integrator kit) and LEDs aren’t very visible during the day. But I do agree that they could be more attractive, if aftermarket worked just as well, I’d change them too!!

Yeah...I was going to leave mine alone...but the 45 mile an hour asphault kiss changed my mind for me.  40 bucks and some super glue to hold the fairing chunk on.

    Re: Honda Turn Signal survey

The rear turn signals are ugly as sin. I dont' know what honda was smoking when they designed them. My bike has the LED flush mounts and I love them. really cleans up the bikes appearance if you ask me.

    Re: Honda Turn Signal survey

The thing is though, most do care about looks just as much as functionality for good reason. Otherwise, looks of the bike shouldn't make any difference in determining your final purchase either to stay consistent, right? Wink The big ugly orange tennis balls have to go.

If they know most will change them and they could just as easily put an O.E.M. attractive one on the factory bike .. brings out the conspiracy theorist in me; do they own after market companies? what gives?

Same with cars. Many European factory cars come with clear light covers and have for years and years and although most seem to prefer that look to the red / orange light covers here in the states, still less than 1% of the cars on the market here come with them.

Puuyeee I say ... they'll probably start putting the clear ones on when people get tired of it and want something else.

    Re: Honda Turn Signal survey

I've noticed that Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki have all updated their turn signals on their sportbikes.  Honda must have a HUGE bin of the ugly square signal because the stock signals on my '02 F4i were the exact same ones as the stock signals on my '86 VFR Interceptor.  (Huge bin).

As far as the Suzuki integrating their signals in the mirrrors goes, yes.  It would increase the cost if you had to replace the mirrror/signal unit.  However, when prepping your ride for a track-day, you kill two birds with one stone by taking off the mirrors.

I purchased after market signals and even went to an integrated LED tail light/signal set-up.  But everyone I rode with said that they could not see the signals at all during the day.  I replaced the LED tail lights with an incadescent bulb and put some low profile (but bright) signals on my license plate.

    Re: Honda Turn Signal survey

I LOL'd when I read your post, abadfish.  I think the stock turn signals on CBR's are very ugly.

I bought my F4 used, and it already had aftermarket turn signals on it.  They work fine, except they take a special bulb, which can be hard to find.  I think the manufacturer is K & S.

    Re: Honda Turn Signal survey

    1. did I replace my stock turn signals-yes only after they got knocked off when i parked at speed.
    2. my satisfaction with the aftermarket signals-not terribly either way. not too visible from the front during the day.
    3. how much did I spend on aftermarket signals-30 dollars on ebay

    Re: Honda Turn Signal survey

I realize that stock are more safe, but they are soo ugly and had to go. I do wish that the aftermarket ones were more visible, but it is just to sweet to go back. right around 30 bones for the signals if I remember.
