    registration in California question

when you buy a motorcycle from a friend and he hasn't registered in 3 years, once you go and registered the bike will you be charged late fees and penalties or will you just paid the fee for new registration?

last i recall on this, have to pay all penalties and late fees. have your friend take care of that first, or factor it in your selling price as a decrease in price. it may not be a big deal, but you're buying your friend's bike and why not make it a clean deal? you're getting stuck with the dirty laundry here. friend or not, it's still your $$$.

you can always contact DMV to be on the safe side. but i thought you cannot xfer/register unless all penaties/fees are paid in this state.

same deal for me. three years of registration for my first gun(bike) from the previous owner ended up costing me a total of 540 dollars. all fees will be your responsibilty when you go to transfer and register in your name. did this about 2 weeks ago. parking tickets as well but any other citations are his.

tell your friend that you guys need to make some kind of deal. 540 is not much but is is about 5 fillups for my truck.
