    what's your fave tire?

Indulge me if you will.  Perhaps it has been a while since the last tire thread.

Right now I am running regular Pirelli Diablos, in the specified sizes.

Before the Diablos, I think I had some kind of Bridgstone on the rear and a Dunlop on the front.

Before that, Front and rear were both Dunlops that I did not like very much.

Before that, I had a Suzuki Bandit 600 with Metzeler Road Tecs.  I liked the Road Tecs because they had a smooth ride and good grip in the wet.

Before that, I had Michelin Pilot Roads on my Bandit.  Pretty good, but I still like the Metzelers better.

Before that, el-cheapo Bridgestone Exedras on my Bandit.  Pretty good, actually, but not as grippy as the Pilot Roads.

So, to sum it up:  I would like the Pirelli Diablos more if I were a more aggressive rider, but I just like to putt around town and take the occasional sport/touring trip, so I think I will get Metzler Road Tecs next time.  They seem to wear on forever and ever.

T.I.A. for your feedback, and happy riding!

So, what is everybody's favorite tire?  This is an informal poll.

What kind of riding do you do?  Commuting?  Aggressive street?  Track?  Sport touring?

    Re: what's your fave tire?

I commute. Now that I'm an old guy I don't ride that agressively anymore. I've had 3 bikes. The first was an 86 500 Interceptor (bought new). Can't remember what kind of tires I used. Next was an FZR600. Had that for a long time and used only Dunlop Sportmax tires. Those were great. When I got my 02 F4i it had Bridgestone BT010s. I liked those tires a lot, but when it was time to replace them, I bought Dunlop D208s (essentially a newer Sportmax) because I had such great results with the ones on my FZR. It was the wrong choice. The Dunlops were squirrelly on uneven pavement and rain grooves. Not so good when the majority of your riding is commuting. I don't think that the D208s were bad tires, just not the right ones for my F4i. My next tires are going to be the BT014 (the BT010 replacements) since the bike functioned perfectly with the original tires.

    Re: what's your fave tire?

I had the BS BattleAx BT-014s on the bike when I bought it.  I didn't like them whatsoever, so I swapped up to some Michelin Pilot Road 2CTs.  Much, much better.

On the CB400, I've had the same GoodYear something-or-others since I've owned it, and they are alright.  I don't think they will ever die.

    Re: what's your fave tire?

I have had a few bikes over the years, my last  two being sport bikes. a 97 Triumph Daytona and now my 01 929. The daytona came with battle axes, BT- 014's I think. Ran out of cash and needed a rear tire so I tried a Tamahawk. Had good luck with it.  The 929 had Pilot Powers on it, great tires. couldnt afford em, So Tamahawks again. still loven em.

Most of my riding is commuting and week end fun time on the street. closest road course is 6 hours away.  So no track days. The Tomahawks  are soft compound . I ride all winter if the roads are clear,  untill most tires warm thell slip hard on the throttle in first. Not so with the tomahawks. right out of the garage it can wheelie on a cold tire. So yeah good grip too.   It's not a pilot power...... but at 80 buck for a 200 rear in Z rating, it's not off the mark enough to hold it aginst it for the price you pay.  And the customer service is great, ive delt with them for a few years now ( like on my 6th full set of tires). They just notified me of a recall for a batch of front tires, that my last purchase fell into. Ive got about 2500 miles on the tire and they sent me a new one free of charge, no questions asked along with a return shiping tag to send them the old one back. and a garentee of a 50 dollar check to cover mounting and balllancing when they recieve the old tire back.

No problems, I love the tires, and the company.

Check em out at   cycletires.com   for more info on the tires and their quality control. There worth a second look.

I've always been a fan of Pirelli in car racing, I cannot say if their prestige is transferable to motorcycles.  I'd probably bet on it anyway, I'm diehard about Pirelli's

I'm loving my Conti-Road Attacks... Plenty of grip in the twisties and good mileage.  Once I'm done with this set, I'll try the Sport Attacks to see how those feel...

    Re: what's your fave tire?

the crappy thing about comparing tires uve had mounted up (atleast on the street) is no one changes tires out when they are still in good condition and have the original profile. so you are always comparing old rubber on flat tires to new rubber w/ a good profile. personally, im a Michelin guy. i dont bother w/ the 2CTs cuz theres no pt on the street and too many ppl have confirmed very low mileage even compared to the reg PP. i run Power Races (the good ones PRC/PR5) on the track, but may be switching to Dunlops to save 50$ per set. ill let u kno how they feel when i do.

    Re: what's your fave tire?

This is kinda related. Ive got a new front to put on, my old faithful tommys. After seing a post by UNCLE JEFF on dyna beads, I talked to a local shopowner who is a good friend. He swears by them. so along with my next tire, Ill be adding dyna beads to see if the fuss is "all that".   Jeffs post is out there if you search it.

jeff's post showed something that has been missing from all other discussion concerning new methods of tire balancing... a result. im going to remove my wheel weights (first time ive had some on in 6yrs) and c if i notice a difference in hand discomfort to try to confirm a similar result.

    Re: what's your fave tire?

I think Ive herd you mention before about not running weights.  Intresting.......I had a shop tell me once that they dont often check balance at tire changes. That the real problem is the wheel it's self. Once the wheel has been balanced your good..........I still ask to have it balanced just for piece of mind. Let me know what you "feel".
