    Mirrors (extending or extended)

Long story short, i cannot see behind me and i wanna change that.

I cannot find any mirrors that have a longer arm to them..... does anyone know where they can be found (if they exist). well let me say that the guy at the local Honda dealer said that they had them for $80-140..... screw that

or while researching them it seems that you can just extend them (by putting something underneath them....) anyone done this??

    thanks!

I couldn't agree more, just about all I can see to the rear is my arms. I wonder about making the mirrors longer also but I worry about how it would look and how it would affect splitting lanes up to the front of lines at stop lights. My mirrors get pretty close to some truck mirrors sometimes. I'll be following along to see what ideas/products others have to solve the issue.

    Re: Mirrors (extending or extended)

As of now I was able to go to a hardware store and raise the mirrors by 0.5", there was virtualy no gain on the Left side, and some one the right (I do not understand why one would be better and the other not).

The lack of results is because I am raising them up aswell as out (unfortunatly out less than up), I might try 1" (but I think that it will be fugly) ill put some pics up later.

Damn, how bulky are you guys?  I have an F4i as well and granted it doesn't have the longest mirrors but I can aim them to see straight behind me with no problem, I can even see the left lanes behind me through my right mirror if I want to.  Tuck in your elbows to your sides (thats how you're supposed to be riding anyways) and yes you do have to move your head a couple of inches to the side to see, you're not driving a Lexus.

I did not buy from these guys. I just did a yahoo search for: motorcycle mirror extension

I have a pair and love them. They used to be quite a bit less, but what didn't.

I bought a pair of these off E-Bay:

The guy was a great seller, price was right, and they look fine.

That said, do they help?  Not as much as you would hope for.  I do think they help a little bit (maybe 10% better)  It may be just enough.  They're cheap and they look OK, so give 'em a try.

note to self..... Google does not know all.... I guess I should use other search engines aswell!!

amnesia: that is basicaly what i got from a local hardware store.... yeah..... for some reason I feel like the Right one improved more than the Left one...... but since it is lifting the mirror up and not much out..... yeah.... lets say that 10% might be generouse Stick out tongue

    Re: Mirrors (extending or extended)

I'm still confused why you guys would need those extensions.... Really, if you aim them properly  you can see waaaay more than you would really want behind you.  May be if you post a pic of how your mirrors are positioned  we can pin point a mistake or something.

Most all m/c forums have many threads on this subject and MANY do not like the limited vision offered by stock mirrors. Many responses are of the variety such as "just move your elbows in" and the like but the problem is not that you can't see what's behind you when you intend to but that you can't keep an eye behind you during normal riding conditions. Sure you can tuck your elbows in, turn your head etc.. but much like when driving in a car, we like to keep an eye on what the maniac behind is doing at all times while maintaining our focus to the front of the bike .. esp. in urban congested traffic with newly licensed drivers.

My experience with most stock mirrors is that at best you get a slight glimpse of what's behind you. The problem is; if you ever sit on your bike and hold a detached mirror to a position where you can see behind you the way you can in a car, you'll notice the mirrors would have to be positioned almost a foot to either side of the bike (which I'm sure is why they don't make them that way to begin with).

p.s. I tried bar end mirrors and the results where not much better.
