    74 Honda CB550

hey guys hopefully you can help me and my dad out on this one. he has a 1974 honda CB550. the bike was running fine, no problems and today when me and my dad went for a ride the bike just died dead in its tracks when we were on the way home.  he wasnt even going fast or giving it alot of gas. it just died and nothing works on it now. it has no eletrical power anywhere. no head light, indicator lights( neutral, oil, turn signals ect), no signals, no spark from the plugs, no light for when you use the brakes ect. the battery does have juice (charged it to make sure and the battery is pretty new...bought like 2 months ago) and the two cables connecting to the battery are on tight. what do you guys think the problem is or how it happened? im guessing a coil problem? maybe that blew? any thoughts are very appreciated!

My first geuss is the wirring going to the batt. You have no power to any thing so you have no connection. check the main cables with a multimeter, there should be continuity from pos. to neg. with the key on. That is a good place to start.

The good news is these bikes are very simple . so it shold be easy to track down.

commuting on a VLX600 shadow for now, 60MPG!!! I punched out the baffles, so it has that V-twin snap and crackle that made H/D so infamous. Except this little scute is rice powered!!lol

thanks hubbard.  we checked the fuses first to make sure they were fine. we later found out that the main fuse was blown but it didnt look like it was. poped a new one in and its good now.  thanks for the info though

Good.....just be mindfull that something caused it to blow, carry a spare or two . and If time allows just kinda look evey thing over for signs of arcing or melted insulation to be on the safe side, it may be nothing but caution can never hurt.
