    Leaded octane boost

    I have tried the search, so sorry if this has alrady been answered.  I have an 02 F4i, and have some  real lead 104 octane boost.  Will this hurt my bike?  Bike is stock minus a micron slip on.  Any help will be appreciated.

    I dont know if its going to hurt it but I'm pretty sure you will not see any improvement on a stock engine.  Higher octane number does not make it a more powerful gas, just more stable for higher complression engines.  Your engine is the same and it will perform the same on 89 and 103.

    +1

    But i do know that in Italy just after the switch to only unleaded there was a lead additive that you could add, a friend of mine would use it on his scooter..... but then again it was a 2-stroke and did not rev as high. I have heard that lead gave more power, but if it does, the higher octane (i think) is just a side effect, there might be a different property that gives that.

    Re: Leaded octane boost

    The lead additive was for lubrication between the valve and seat.  Your bike will not need this lead additive.  I kind of laugh when everyone talks about hi-comp engines....I'd really like to know since the F4i does have what 12:1 comp ratio....how much higher does it need to be?   If you take your bike to a professional shop ,who knows how to tune a bike, you will see an improvement.   By just putting higher octane  fuel into your engine does not give you more power.

    The comp ratio is 12:1

    You won't see huge gains, but you should see slight improvement.  Only way to tell for sure is to put it on the dyno and try it.  I would bet the gains would be less then 3hp though.

    As for how much higher could compression be- my truck runs 17:1...

    Re: Leaded octane boost

    You defo dont need leaded octane boost as this was for older motors that were made before unleaded fuel a higher octane does make a difference in proformance as i put in high octane fuel in my bike it does make a differnce but the main one is i get more miles to the gallon

    I bet your truck also lacks sparkplugs though ;)  And can it rev past 4K RPM? :)  I'd say 12:1 is pretty high for a gas engine.

    i'm assuming, based on the last post, that deisel fuel is less combustable (ignitable? flammable?) in a compressed state than gasoline, thus allowing higher compression ratios before spontaneous detonation occurs?

    Diesel actually ignites at a lower temperature than gasoline.  Diesel engines rely on the heating effect of compression for ignition instead of a spark plug in gasoline engines.  Diesels have higher compression because the act of compression ignites the fuel, not a spark of electricity, so it allows the cylinder to compress the diesel more than gas.

    I use 98 (BP Ultimate) too, but only because it claims to have better cleaning properties than normal fuel and theres never usually anyone on that pump and i'm only really spending an extra $2. { /bad grammar }
