Hi,
I finally got around to installing (ok, getting around to helping my mechanic install) the newest J24 cam chain tensioner/lifter on my 2001 F4i. I didn't do any mods to the new tensioner/lifter. The job (with side fairing removal and removing the throttle bodies for easier access to the tensioner/lifter) from start to finish was getting close to 3 hrs. The tensioner/lifter was about $55 Canadian.
The greatly annoying engine rattle between 3,000-5,000 rpms is now gone, and I am soooo happy with just hearing the smooth engine and exhaust sounds. Now the question will be to see if Honda finally got it right with this latest tensioner/lifter (their fourth one). Hopefully things will stay quiet for as long as I have the bike, anyway. If not I'll probably do the tip mod that Uncle Jeff posted on here that many folks say solved the problem.
