daf:Is it not a good idea to upgrade the rear shock and leave the front forks stock?
Upgrading the suspension is something I am looking at doing but don't have the funds
available at the moment to upgrade both the front and rear at the same time.
What sort of service should I expect to perform to maintain a shock like the Fox
ones mentioned here?
sadly, on the F2... the forks are the worst part of the entire bike. unless u have a 94' F2, the design is decades old and really just a piece of sh*t. cartridge emulators from Racetech will help, but theyll never be as good as the stock set on a newer bike. so ya, it would def be a great idea to upgrade both ends at the same time. even just upgrading the front end is prob better than anything else, but ya. i did an upgrade on my old F2 by replacing the front end w/ that off an F4i while replacing the shock. thats wat all those extra parts u see in the picture are.
how well a motorcycle performs in turns is usually a matter of balance and control. the stock suspension offers neither of these things given that the front springs are made for a 120lb rider and the rear spring is made for a 220lb rider. also, esp on the 91-93' F2, both ends offer no adjustment of damping characteristics. and even on the newer models, the stock damping is marginal... close to good but not ideal for any rider. either way.... suspension upgrades are only cheap when you start w/ something good and have the know-how to make it good yourself, instead of paying someone else to do it... both cases dont happen all that often.
