Hi guys I am looking for your expert opinion on a problem with my f4i. I just got the bike a couple weeks ago and have noticed a ticking sound at all temperatures and rpm's. I have read a lot of posts about the cct and believe that the cct is bad from what kind of noise is made when that goes bad. It does have the 4k to 6k noise like a cct would have but I guess my question is would a cct also cause this tick as well cuz it is very annoying and I want to make sure I am not goingto damage anything. Also the power band is great from 9 and above but sluggish in lower to mid rpm's if that helps. bike has 18k not sure of maintenance but the head was sent to nps and was ported and polished at some point. It has the nps stamp on the head. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

i know mine has a very loud injector noise, a constant clicking, which is normal, maybe this is what your refering about?

The CCT makes a range of sounds and "could" be the ticking sound you are getting.

Best way to find out is get your ear in to listen and find the source

Among other things:

If it is from the RHS of the engine it may well be the CCT

Top may be valves etc

If it is a knock it could be from the bottom end

 

Check your exhaust over very carefully too, a minor leak will give a tap and the mild steel pipes are prone to rusting v easily. May be able to weld this but often a blob of exhaust putty will do the trick.

 

Ah and low end power is pretty naff on most sporty 600 IL4s - CBRs included
